I've hunted alot of different ways over the years, and I'd say the closer range "walk" dogs like they have on the show are the best type for filming.  I mean how much footage would they get of a sure enough long range hog dog?  I bet the folks on the show would do it alot different if they didn't have to worry about getting good footage.

I'm sure it has caused a whole new crop of wanna be hog hunters, but were'nt we all wanna be's at some point?(some hunts I still feel like one Wink

Yea we all know a lot of it is staged but thats probably 99% of reality shows. I thinks its awesome they get to make a living doing what they enjoy. I dont think they are hurting us as bad as most people on the www now days cause i cant recall them letting the dogs chew down the hogs and they pretty much take everything out alive. Most people probably dont even wanna see them hunting they just wanna see Lea and Krystal!! Grin

reality shows should be a true reality, not a costume dress up of what reality should be. it should be real, not marker cards and retakes bc someones chaps arent on properly or the gurt strap broke or some1 who cant tie a knott, the pig gets loose and then gets retied and then a comment is made, "thats how you tie a hog" if you take 90% crap out of it, you end up with a better showing of something in its true form, not made up believes

As it has been stated already y'all that think you can do better should film your own hunts and c if some one will put u on a national television show. I think it could be shown in a different light but they are getting payed to do what we all love and that's catch pigs and if there is something on tv u don't enjoy change the channel

that show does not come on my tv, if i see it, i pass it up, but i will watch the episode that a friend gonna be on.
why should it be shown the ins n outs of the sport, why continue to feed the idiots. u show the producers what you got, they say nope, not enough flash and dash to be on tv. you need to do it this way bc its all for ratings, not for the reality of the show. be realistic if your gonna put it on the nation to see.

I agree 110% as well Charles I mean go look in the dog trade there is very few of us who actually us this forum as more than just a dog peddler on the dog trade finished dogs for 300 bucks yea right not trying to be rude but most of the dogs you see on the dog trade are from people who watched one of these so called reality shows decided to become hog hunters and then 3-8 months later decide that hog hunting isn't there cup of tea so they post their dogs in the dog trade and try to get something out if them then some one who really and truely does want to become a hog hunter buys those dogs and they aren't up to par ain't it ruins them from wanting to hog hunt have nothing against them getting paid to do what they love to do but reality means real and I can't find many things on these shows that really happen like that on any of my hunts

When I first seen it I was kinda critcal of all of it and the other hog hunting shows .  Now that I have had a year to think about it all .   You know what its just a tv show entertainment and they do catch hogs thats all that matters.  I done got to were I kinda like watching the shows its better than a lot of the garbage that is on tv these days and I would rather have my kids looking at this rather than some of terriable cartoons they have these days and they wonder why kids are the way they are .

In my day they would have locked down the tv station for showing such garbage!

Their dogs are their dogs they likem so they good with me .  Who cares.

One other thing any real women hog hunter are man knows you dont go out on a hog hunt in the tightest jeans you can get on and a tight tight tight pink shirt were your boobs look like they are screaming to breath.  Then comes the makeup and eye liner that would really look like mud in about five mins in the Texas Heat.  O and lets not forget the custom jewlery that looks like they may be kin to Snoop dog, on a real hog hunt come on man !  Then you got the boy that wears a hat that looks like a small TeePee sittin on his head LOL and he has on I guess the thick ass leather snake proof chaps that anybody on here knows are so hot in the winter you cant hardly wear them muchless in 105 degee Texas heat and to top that off chasing hogs with them on come on man damn .  Nobody is really dirity are bloody when it is all said and done .  I have never been on a  hog hunt were I caught tied are killed three four five hogs and come out looking like I just came from the cleaners .

So after a year to think about it I watch it and laugh a lot and get some good kicks out of it .  They catch  hogs tho so to each his on and hell they doing better than us they gettin paid big bucks.

I might have to get me one of them Tee Pee hats Lmao !

yaw are right, they are catching hogs, but how many times do really you see the pig just jump up and run right in front of you? i will admit, that on a couple acassions, the dogs were plum dog tired, as was the 2 guys and myself and we actually saw the hogs, about 80yds in front of us and then they scattered. the dogs took off after them, caught 3 out of probably 20 head. we ended up toting them out, which the boat was a half a mile away and it took 2 trips to get all hogs n dogs back to the boat. that hog hump will never happen again. every scene when they catch the hog, the camera guy has lens on the hog before the dog does and then its like a que card, the dogs take off and hav a lil 100lb hog caught, well 100lbs most of the time. i guess if you are doing what you like (catching hogs) but dont mind stretching a mile of truth and a 10lb bag of sugar coating, then its fine and dandy.

I just want to know how that big ass Tee Pee hat stays on his head . Hell I cant even keep a baseball cap on my head when Am headed threw the brush and briars to get a hog I done lost about ten of them in the last five years.  Maybe there is a art to it I just dont know about .  I would have to  paint that 150.00 Tee Pee Fire Truck Red so I could find it and end up huntin my damn hat more than the hogs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that when they cast this show they were looking for character, not the best hog hunters in the world. No it may not be accurate to the way everyone hunts, but it's not meant to be. It's meant to be entertainment, I mean come on, it's not on the documentary channel or the science channel. It's meant for ratings and to make money for the company producing it. I like the show, the old man is funny and the hunting is kinda comical at times, but I don't expect it to be an exact representation either.  Watch it and see it for what it is or change the channel.

When Swamp People came on the air most folks from south Louisiana  was very disappointed in how they portrayed the Cajun people and how they portrayed alligator hunting in general. Every thing about that show is sensationalized. But the thing that matters the most is that people from outside of Louisiana can't get enough and the ratings are through the roof. The Cajun kids also love it. Same as the
Hoggers show. People from outside of Texas and hog hunting areas don't know any different and they also can't get enough.
They even got a new show about a group of Cajuns hunting down and destroying nutrias to control the population. They use machine
guns, hand grenades, flame throwers etc. Very very STUPID show to us from Louisiana but I wouldn't be surprised If it too was a hit
outside of Louisiana. The name of the show is  " Rat Ba$tards". I got a 4 yr. old nephew that loves it, says he want's to be a
Rat Ba$tard, lol.
