Anybody run a Wild Boar Ugly Dog Ranch Guardian Kevlar Vest? I have a Hardcore vest that I have used twice and I dont like it all all, I am looking for a new vest. If you use the Wild Boar Ugly Dog Ranch Guardian Kevlar Vest and you like it or dont like it, I would appreciate your input.

My hardcore vest is a Tank Vest (Size Medium), I bought a few months back at Uncle Earls. I used the Tank Vest on my dogo yesterday. After catching a 80 lb boar in big cypress slough in the woods, I used my dogo to catch some running hogs in a pen so that we could cut some young boars. While catching hogs in the pen my dogo held a hog by himself for a couple of minutes until I could get to him. The very small tooth boar he was holding cut the vest pretty good. The small tooth cut the first layer and cut the second layer. If this would have been a bigger hog with better teeth I believe he may have cut through the vest. As far as wieght and comfort I really like the vest and it looks good, however, I think the vest should have been a little tougher for the $120 I paid. ![](http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w486/joncowart/cutvest2.jpg) ![](http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w486/joncowart/cutvest1.jpg)

Those small teeth can be like razor blades.

I leearned my lesson early on about small tooth boars. They cut a dog up worse than a pig with big cutters. Those little teeth are sharper than a big pigs and they dont have to hook to cut either. they just start slicing and dicing every where the swing that head.

I like the hell out of my guardian vest, I've got two of them and have had some good cuts but not a pass through yet. My buddy has used them a long time and he likes them as well, my brother also invested in one and he loves his. They are well worth the money imo

I have 4 of the gaurdian type vest , I luv them , I have a gaurdian , gaurdian kevlar and a titan I believe , the felt ones down fall is in the water its heavy and dogs tend to sink , I like the kevlar style because they dont do that , I bought a new gaurdian kevlar and the first hog I met was a 330lb bad a$$ , he poked threw the vest 7 times , one hell of a war and we won , 550 dollars at the vet but my dog is still here and we went hunting this weekend and thats what there for , all vest with the right hog will get cut threw , I sent this vest back to ugly dog plus the other vest that was on the other bulldog and told him the story and he replaced it for free and upgraded the other from a gaurdian to a gaurdian kevlar , very good people at ugly dog , Ive recently sent two in for repairs and they fixed them right up and sent back for a fair price , there are a lot of differnt vest out there and a lot of opinions , but the best you can afford and cover that bottom jaw up , just my 2 cents , GOOD PEOPLE AT UGLY DOG

I like my two vests just fine. Have caught some good ones with them. No pass throughs yet other than on the leg flaps. I love the throat flap or chin flap. I have a long one and a short one for winter and summer they are both the thickest made i think they are 5 layer kevlar.

True but tell ask Sam3030 to post pics of his devestator 3 layer kevlar vest his dog got a 4" slice to the rib cage could have been real bad you just can't beat quality kevlar in my opinion, when I find a vest that holds up better then the hardcore I'm staying

http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/index.php?topic=54817.msg374003#msg374003I recomend getting your moneys worth and try one of these. I had an ugly dog 4 layer titan that got cut to hell with poke throughs and and a cut up neck on my dog. First time out with that vest $300+ dollars later for the vest and $300 for the vet. A buddy let me use one his seatbelt vest and theres absolutly no comparison not to mention half the price. I sold that vest to a guy I used to hunt with even after I told I would never run it again. Just cause it said ugly dog on it I guess. Kevlar will stop a boar tooth but when you cover it with cordura it just falls apart after a cut.

Multiple layers of seatbelt wont fray up like that single layer of cordura on that Hard Core and Ugly Dog. You can also clean up surface cuts with a lighter like nylon cord.

Yeah my ugly dog devastator got sliced up 6 inches on the Rib cage area got sliced up pretty bad.... Good vest but not on a big 300 pound rank boar. We have tried numerous vest ugly dog, P&P, you name it and the hard core tank vest is the only one with not a single pass threw different vest were used on the same rank boar all the others cut while that one held strong with a not one pass. Of course the cordura gets sliced up that don't bother me. What bothers me is when it gets threw the vest and kills a dog... I don't know maybe some of y'all just haven't met that hog yet but all of our vest excluding the hard core have been cut up and passed threw with holes in them. I'm sold on mikes vest from hard core hog dogs for now

That seat belt vest looks cool and im sure it holds up... seat belt material is tough, but look at how many areas of the dogs body is exposed and liable to get cut ![Sad](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/sad.gif) it doesn't cover the dog very good maybe on a strike dog it would be good but not on a catch dog

Get the old style gaurdain, you will have to ask them to make you one. They hold up 10x better easily. Very good people to deal with.

There is cheap kevlar and quality kevlar I would go quality weather you put 3 or 5 layers of the cheap stuff it still don't compare to the 1 layer of good stuff

I got the ugly dog guardian in kevlar. Had a few cuts in the outer layer but nothing thru the kevlar. I do take the time to sew it up after a cut with good nylon thread to prevent fraying. My buddy has the same vest in special order with the extra layers. His dog came off the flatbed and had a run in with the dual wheels before the snap broke. Got some good road rash but guaranteed that vest saved that dogs life!

I agree. The ugly dog vest you are talking about of Sams is ment to be a light weight vest. The ugly dog one I am talking about is very heavy duty. Very nice vest. You are not compareing apples to apples. I have thought about going to a light weight vest during the summer but I want the protection. We carry a lot of water and dont let the bulldogs get very hot. We are big on taking off the vest and putting them in the river, pond, creek etc. Level 7 Protection, Almost 100% hog cut proof. 3" Extra of protection at the rear and an extra strap.- the above is right off their website. I can name alot of people who have ran the titan vest from Uglydog and have caught truck loads of good hogs. That is enough proof for me. Any vest will get cut at some point, just a matter of time. I guess it is a preference thing.
