Thinking of taking a sight seeing trip through the Appalachian mountains in October. My question is this, is it legal to have a pistol in the truck? Will be traveling through 7 or 8 states. I just feel a little safer having a weapon for protection. Also have any of you drove through the mountains in the fall? I never was one for vacations but I thought this might be a nice one. No particular destination, just get in the truck and take our time driving the scenic byways and taking in the view.

Here's a link to a site that should give you just about all you need to know about the other states Jimco. You'll enjoy this trip I promise you. I've lived in Alabama my entire life and from here on up the views will be breathtaking if you catch it just right. Be sure to go through the Smokies of course,......nothing like it anywhere else. Have fun. http://www.usacarry.com/louisiana_concealed_carry_permit_information.html

Legal or not, I would not make that trip without one. There are many laws I choose to ignore.

Yup... and the fact is even if you are legal that doesn't stop them from harrasing you and YOU having to prove it. Innocent until proven guilty is just a PR slogan they use.

I've traveled all over working and never go anywhere without protection. Especially with my family in the truck. Most lawmen can tell the difference between a man that just wants to be able to protect himself and family from trouble and a punk turd trouble maker. The only occasion this would ever come up would be on a traffic stop. Just pleasantly meet him at the rear of your truck with your DL,ins, and reg. If he ask about looking in the truck just let him know that you do have a pistol. They don't like surprises.

Just got through doing some research on this one. My son lives in NYC and is moving to Buffalo, Ny and wants me to bring him his shotgun and SKS.
We are going to drive up in October and enjoy the colors and will be going through the states of Tx, Ar, Tn, Va, Wv, Pa, and Ny. I have concealed carry and will be good to go everywhere but Ny. Even though I have a concealed carry permit I cannot even have a unloaded pistol in the vehicle. The shotgun is OK but must be unloaded and cased. The SKS is OK if it is pre Clinton ban and does not have a folding stock, detachable magazine, and bayonet.
I would not live in Ny if someone gave me the deed to a city block.

After a late night coming down 59 in East Texas I will never travel without a gun again. I had some pick-up try to run me off the road for o reason at all. I had not seen anybody for some time so it could not have been road rage. I don't know his reason reason but I was lucky to know how to drive when someone is trying to run you off the road. But if I had not been paying attention that first attempt to run me off the road may have worked and if he would have had a weapon I would have been in trouble. You just never know what is going to happen. Before the concealed law my dad always carried on a road trip. He said he did not break any other law so the only way he would get caught was if he used it to save his life and then he would be alive to get in trouble.
Never pull out a gun unless you intend to shoot. Never shoot unless you intend to kill. So never pull out a gun unless you are ready to kill someone. Always do you best to avoid killing someone. Some simple rules to avoid problems. I have seen too many fools just pull out a gun and the problem just get worse. Guns may scare some people but make most people angry. So keep the guns put away unless your life is in danger but when you oull it out you better be ready to use it.
