A good buddy of mine is a vet and he doesn't like it.  Doesn't have good ingredients, or enough of the right things, protein and fats or the wrong kind of fats.  One reason he said you feed less of a high quality dog food is it provides the dogs the right kinds of fats and proteins to maintain the dog and not fatten it up or end up crapping it out.  I use to feed the cheapest stuff I could get, Ol' Roy, was going through over 100 lbs a week, switched to Sportsmix and feed about 50 lbs every 2 weeks, no loss in body condition, actually look better now, and less crapping.

sportsmix blue bag or black bag...start with a smaller amount of food and then work up...

the digestibility of protein is not created the same...hair is over 90% protein and is not digestible yet some cheap dog foods add some to boost the % protein in dog foods...also corn has protein and is digestible but not as digestible as meat or eggs...

Dang i didnt even answer the man's question.  I used to feed sportsmix black bag REALLY REALLLY liked it.  Now im feeding Retriever blue bag for no other reason than its cheaper.  Retriever is still decent feed but in my opinion  Sportsmix is better.

hell purina is a good feed they been at it a long long time , but as with everything you wind up paying more for the product to cover advertiseing cost and purina is one of the biggest advertisers there is . i wonder how much they could sell it for if they quit the advertiseing and took that billion dollars out of there budget Huh?

I've been feed Purina to my dogs since I was a kid and it's all my dad feed.  I have raise up puppys on it and they look like ccrap if I feed. Them anything else.   I don't really care for sportsmix.   I have to feed way more of it for some reason to keep my dogs looking decent.  I know that's opposite of everyone else but that's how it goes on my yard.
