I was thinking about a project that would need some PVC about 16.5" in diameter. I would only need one piece. Where can I get it and how much would it cost?

Depends on what ur doing with it. But pipe that size would be a c-900 water main pipe or SDR sewer pipe.  A joint would be in the 13 foot range. I don't know how far u r from Shreveport but I have plenty of shorter pieces on my yard.

I want to get rid of the run-flats from my rims. I have seen PVC inserts made to replace the run-flats with a PVC insert. So the wheel weighs less and I can air it down and use the double bead lock. The cost seems high to me so I figured I could just find some PVC and cut it down myself. I will have to break one down but if it is 16.5" rim I am guessing the bead of the tire is 16.5.

Charles now you know that is just crazy. Who would use PVC?

My pops used to make them outa 2" pvc elbows n a plastic saucer plate, semi truck valve stem n jb weld. Worked fine for many yrs.  Grin

U dont hav to use anythng to take up the gap from the runflat. Iv ran hmmvs with out them with now issues. I hope u know how to get that runflat out. Iv put them in n its a sever pain in the butt. Use a 10k ratchet strap n fold it in half n use a LOT of lube

When they come out they are not going back in. I may just leave them in until the tires wear out. I really want some of those BFG's. But they don't sell that size to the public so I will have to keep using the used tires.

Charles you are say I can pull those runflats out and then just bolt the rim back together but then it would not be bead lock would it?

Them runflats are nothing but a solid chunck of rubber, similar to a soldi fork truck tire. They dont have anything to do with the beadlock. The beadlock is just a 2pc rim system that is used for field expediant repairs. Its easier to unbolt a rim, swap tires out, put it back together, throw a lil wind in it n keep rollin, vs having to carry a tire demounting machine or them tire spoons around for when u get a flat. I dont know bout you dub, but iv busted n remounted tires with just a tanker bar n 36" prybar n a lot of grease. It aint easy

Without the run flat you can lower the air pressure. The bead lock stops the tire from turning inside the rim. It locks the bead in place. I have spun a few tires right off the wheel. Then you have to put it back on but then you have to use something flammable to get the tire to seat so you can inflate. With the bead lock I can split the rim put on a new tire bolt it back together and just add air. You can't do that with a regular tire and wheel. To change to a new tire the run flat is a real pain in the backside. I don't plan on taking any rounds through tire so they can go.

Like now I could not get the balanced at the shop. I will let the air out, split the wheel, throw in some BB's, bolt it up and add air. I will be able to do it right in my driveway with no special tools.

I could take the run flat out and cut off the part the sticks up and use the round part that hold the bead of the tire. But cutting a piece of PVC is easier and will weigh less.

BTW for those that live where it gets cold if you want to the balancing from inside the tire you have to add a little antifreeze. I may throw some in for good measure.

The guy selling the PVC inserts is asking about $50 a pop for them. I am not sure the width of the wheel but that piece can't be a foot wide. So I figure I could make it out of 16.5 PVC and only need four feet. I figure that should not cost that much. But I may just go ahead and by them if I can't find the pipe.

I would sure like a set of those new BFG's. But these look pretty good and the hubcaps go right back on Grin

to reseat the bead w/o using flames, take a 5-10k ratchet strap and ratchet it down on the center of the tires. it will push down on the center, forcing the side out and you can add wind w/o using fuels that may destroy the tire. iv used the straps on 37x13.5x20 toyo mts and my kubota tractor tires.
