Since I hve joined the internet hunting world (very recently) , I have noticed that everyone seems to have one or SEVERAL of what they call "jam up dogs", and a good number are seen on the dog trade for sale. I am only 30, but have run dogs my whole life, not just hog dogs in tx, but bear and lion dogs in NM. But, I was under the impression that if a person was lucky enough to have a "jam up dog", it more than likely happened only ONCE OR TWICE in a lifetime. Yet tons of dogs are posted for sale as "jam up". Is my understanding of the word wrong? Are there just that many more good dogs around? OORRRRR, as i suspect......Are the new generation of "dog men" Throwing these terms around wayyy too much?

Why would you two laugh at that and think it's funny or anything remotely close.......it's said that people have come to that saying..to sale junk. Angry

I remember a time before this internet when a mans word was a mans word and meet something, now HA, you can say what you want.........all dogs or JUNK till I see them with my on eye's work in the woods...

well you have to keep up with the times or get left behind takem . i get a kick out of people that think this is a new trend . and that a mans word used to be his bond . since the day i was born around 57 years ago we have had dog and horse traders and theives and chalitens praying on the uninformed and innocent . the internet just brings it in from all over the world not just the ones in your backyard so to speak . if people realy on taking a mans word be it on dogs , horses , used cars or construction work then in my opinion they have no one to blame but themselves for their misfortune . been that way for years and years and years  it's not a has come of late new generation thang . there are still alot of good people in the world and there are still those that prey on the weak but the percentages are still about the same as days gone past  .

the whole idea of jam up or finished is also based on percepetion for that reason I have not ever sold a started, or finished dog because in my eyes my dogs are always improving and to say they are finished means they are improved to the point they are finished improving.

As so much of this bad dealings, dog stealing and folks getting screwed over goes, it all stems from a lack of character.....something that seems to escape a lot of people. I'm 60 years old and this has been running rampant as long as I can remember,......we just hear about it more now than when I was a kid.....due in part to the internet and just better communications than we used to have. I just can't understand why anyone would trade dogs or go hunting with a person of questionable character,......they ain't that hard to spot.... Shocked At least for me that is.....I just don't hunt with anyone that I don't trust......simple as that. Most of these, as my folks always called them,......'no count' people are all full of themselves and can be spotted at a glance. I would rather sit at home and wish I was hunting than go with someone I don't totally trust,....but that's just me. I have been blessed greatly with life-long friends that I can trust completely.....I am a lucky man.

This is what I've found to be true with with most hog hunters, if they can catch a hog with them they are jam up and if they can't catch a hog with them they are help dogs.

I going to be positive.  If they had never hunted with really good dogs how would they know what good dogs are?    I think most young hunters think if they can stumble on a hog from time to time they are good dogs.   How else could there be so many finished two yr old dogs?

im 30 also and new to the sport , ive caught a few hogs with my dogs and i know for a fact that they are not great dogs and nowhere close to bein as good as i want them to be !  i know some guys that think their dogs are just the best on earth because they'll roll out to 300 to 400 yrds and SOMETIMES stumble upon a pig or two Huh?  it ticks me off when somebody hunts once a month , catches a pig and thinks the dogs are the greatest things to hit the woods !!!

Why worry about others?
Hunt for you
Feed the dogs you like
Hunt as much or little as you want
Have fun
When they only hunt once a month and have great hunts don't be fooled into thinking someone along the way didn't put the work into it!   Either they bought, stole, given or bred good dogs somewere along the way.   Or sometimes its just good old luck.
