Haven't been posting for awhile. Sold all of my dogs awhile back, and have been in the process of building a new pack. Got a invite to run on a new property. Brought my dogs Runt, Fancy and my catchdog Joe. Runt and Fancy struck this hog and got him stopped about 700yds away. It took alittle time to get to the bay. When I got there I turned Joe into the hog and the hog was rank. He worked Joe over, severeing his left front leg tendon, then working him over on the ground when he had a hard time standing. Cut Joe 3x in the neck through his collar and another on in his chest through the vest. Tried to shoot in and leg him without him being caught but he saw me coming and charged me. It all happened in less then 15-20 seconds. the hog tried to break but Runt and Fancy stopped him and had him bayed. was able to get to Joe and he was blowing blood everywhere. Put a pressure bandage to try and stop the bleeding. The guy who invited me on the hunt finally caught up to us and he saw what was going on and took off for his truck and first aid kit.
By the time he got back Joe was dead. I had no bulldog, and really was pissed off that I was unable to get this hog. The land owner said he had a gun in his truck and if I wanted to shoot him he would get it. I would of much rather of caught him alive but that was not a option. Runt and Fancy held that hog for over 45minutes. Was really proud of my two young dogs. Took the land owners pistol and shot the hog. The land owner said that this hog has killed a few other guys dogs that he has let hunt on his property, and was glad to finally get him.
Have been real lucky not losing a dog before after catching 100's of hogs. Joe was one tough S.O.B, never whined or gave up to the end. RIP old boy Joe!!
