steve they will get infected at times . but the dogs usually do more damage to there selvs trying to get them out  . i had a thorn about an inch and a quarter in my thigh for i don't know how long or when i got it . when it finally pushed out enough to raise the skin i felt it  lol . it hurt like hell when i touched the bump . i broke the skin and sqeezed it out . i couldn't believe it was as big as it was and i didn't feel it go in . but the wound on your dog looks clean i would just keep it on antibiotics and put a good salve or something on it . wrap it for a bit but don't leave the wrap on . the dog will pull it off anyway but it will give the salve time to work . might squirt a little pen right on the wound before putting the salve on it . that looks like a mesquit or black locust thorn from the size of it and they will give some people and dogs a bad infection .

Thats looks normal for thorns.  It happens to mine all the time and they heal fine on thier own with out any teatment.  If you gave Pen., just house them in a clean area and you should certainly be fine.  If thats the worst wound he gets you will be lucky. Smiley

West texas. When you can find forms of life its gonna poke you stick you or bite you. But if your worried about a thorn gettin stuck in a dogs foot and you hunt in the state of texas i would advise you to stay out of the woods then. Cus it happens to my dogs all the time.

its typical for thorns to do that. iv had it happen to me before from a black locus tree in east tx, it was painfull and then sickening. i pulled a bunch out of my too from this wkend hunt too. your thorn looks like a mequite thorn, all mine were cactus. them mesquite thorns are as bad as a locus thorn. be glad it wasnt poison sumac
