Where'd you snag that paddlefish at? I've only seen one that we mistook for a gar while bowfishin, knew it wasn't cause he didn't fight like one, thats pretty cool man, sounds like fun!

I saw some guys doing that same thing on TV the other day Craig, and it was in NE Oklahoma.  Interesting critters, those fish eat plancton not other fish so the only to catch them is to snag them.  Prehistoric looking things for sure.

I know Craig is in Oklahoma, but Texas fisherman be aware...

"The State of Texas has protected the paddlefish since 1977. It is considered a threatened species. It is unlawful to catch, kill or harm paddlefish in Texas."

OK I have never used the method but can see how it would be productive on larger hard to catch fish. I will have to try that some time ore is it not legal in Texas.

I haven't caght one yet but a buddy of mine foul hooked one below the gates at livingston. I have seen people over there snagging fish making it look like they were working a big jig. It's funny to watch them. They'll look around to make sure no one is looking, give the rod a big jerk, let it fall a couple seconds, jerk it again, and they'll never pull the fish out of the water until they are off the hook and in a dip net.

My grandpa said when he was little they used to catch paddlefish in a gill net in old lakes off the river. I have seen some swimming around.
