Rough or loose dogs

I know this is a question that is more what fits your style but I walk hunt and we have runners bad so what would be better a group of rough dogs or loose daying ones just wondering what other people think?

We have a lot of runners back home I run loose baying dogs because of the fact that IMO the hog will settle if he isn't being pressured now if a hog try's to break bay all my dogs will eat his rear end off until the hog stops again which is normally with in 5-10ft but once the hog stops they will back up and bay

Most ppl like myself are set in there ways one way or another on what kind of dogs they run and how they hunt them. But in my openion if you are walk hunting and having hogs break put some man eater poacher style dogs on the ground and don't give the hog a chance to break bay. Or run you a rcd with a little go that will stay with your dogs and the hog won't have a chance to run. I rarely walk hunt but this is the kind of dogs I have always used and always will. I have a good friend that beleaves in loose dogs and a lead in cd. Always talk smack back and forth about witch way is better and just agree to disagree lol. It's whatever works for you but IMO ruff dogs are the way to go screw letting him settle I want him caught as quick as possible.

I prefer a good dog and won't hunt a sorry one. You can catch hogs effectively with whatever style floats your boat, but if you got a bunch of POS "help dogs" on the ground, you need to "help" yourself by figuring out who's contributing to your pack and who's suckin up free food.

If I had to walk hunt I would have me some RCD's that would grab them up quick. If the hog did run the dogs wouldn't run over about 1/2 a mile or so. JMO.

Go either rough basically rcd or full rcd or go back up and bay don't mix you will have bay busters

I got two packs one is one bark then strait catch the other bay dogs I don't hunt them at the same time or the same way I like the bay dogs better because they dont tear the hogs up so bad but I would not chase them on foot

I agree. We catch hogs with both loose and rough.

Depends on how far out those dogs hunt. If you got catchy rough dogs and they are 1000 yds away when they catch, you may have a mess.

I have always felt that if a hog really wants to run then that is exactly what it is going to do is run, and they pretty well onow where they are wanting to go when they take off running. so I run my dogs with plenty of stay with very little Pressure. Sometimes they run cross counties, sometimes they run a short ways. Either way my dogs are there and I don't mind a good five or six hour race every now and again as long as we get the pork. Dblackwell, and other hunting buddies might not care for how I like em but they produce for me and that's all I can ask for.

a hog may want to run , and if they decide to run go ahead and go but he ain't gonna be runnin full speed with a bunch of dogs hanging on  lol . when i started i was walk huntin and ran close working ruff dogs . and did very well . after doing this for a while i still walk hunt and run medium to close working dogs that bay pretty well on a settled hog but try to catch on the break . terrain has alot to do with method and dog style  . just figure whats best for your area and work with it .

We picked up a group of Bmc that are rough as can be! They are getting us hogs but I have a pack of mixs and hounds that are good too but I think I'll run the Bmc a lot more now you really don't even need a catch dog for them but where we hunt we have a few 300+ pigs and one boar that hits over 400 we have had him bayed 2 time and got dogs cut on him .... We are hoping these curs get in him soon we have some nice bulldogs waiting for revinge lol

And then feed them "help dogs" a lead pill....dont go sellin em!!! Lol

Im the same as you, i like a good dog. loose, rough or catch, that doesnt matter much to me, just put a hog on the table. im happy with catchin pork!
Guess for me its more of "the end" than it is "the means to an end"......if that makes sense hahaha
