Thanks to Jordan Young, Drew Whistler and I were able to get some pups on their first hog in the woods. My two girls Bella and Alice (9 months - 1/2 Cat 1/4 Red Bone 1/4 Pitt) were both in heat so they had to sit this one out. I brought my pup Jasper (8 months - BMC) and my catch dog Zeuse (2 years - 3/4 Pitt 1/4 Cat). Drew brought his two pups Buzz and Jules (9 months - Cat).

The place we were hunting was nice. I think it was about 900 acres, mostly pasture but a nice creek bottom and a few stands of trees. We dropped the dogs about 8:15 and started driving the pasture edges. Jordan's dogs were hunting well and the pups were doing pretty good. They were ranging out with the older dogs most of the time. After driving the edges for a while we parked and decided to make a loop through the bottoms. Jordan's dog Tonka was hunting hard and when we were about ready to call it quits he struck. He bayed and most of the dogs got to him quick. Drew's pup Buzz got there in a hurry. Jasper and Jules made it to the bay before we cut the catch dogs loose. When we cut them loose Jordan's dog Max got there quick, my Zeuse had a little trouble with briars (handler error) and got there a couple seconds behind Max. When he got there Max was on one ear of the hog and Buzz caught on the other ear as soon as Max did. I guess Zeuse divided the snout was the next best thing, that's where he was caught when we got there. Not ideal but this was a sow and even though she had some nice teeth for a sow he didn't catch a nick, neither did the rest of the dogs. All in all it was a great hunt. Exactly what I was looking to happen for my young dogs. Thanks again Jordan and Drew. Can't wait till the next time.

I don't know anything about your spot, but for training pups, it's hard to best catching a hog then tying the old dogs back and letting that hog go and send nothing but the pups in on it. Walk and break the hog as much as you can handle and you'll see a huge difference in the pups in a short amount of time!

Had a real good time. Cant wait to get them back out.   Was very pleased with how the pups did.  Jordans tonka dog was working hard if our pups start hanging out with him im confident they will learn what there supposed to be doing out there.

BA-IV.  thanks for the advice will definately try the next time.

Peachcreek.  Jewels stayed a few feet back the whole time baying.  Which is perfectly fine with me.

Glad I could get y'all on some hogs yesterday. Wished we could have stayed out there all day in that nice weather. But them 12 HR night shifts suck with out any sleep. Kevin come back down and visit us. Maybe we can get on some more. Drew I'm glad to finally get you on some hunts after are few dry runs I was beginning to thank it was you carrying the bad luck. Lol.

BA-IV - your suggestion crossed my mind the night before, ive done just that thing a few times but seein as I had never met Jordan and it was his spot that we were hunting I didn't think it appropriate to ask just yet : )

Jordan, like drew said I would love to get the dogs together again. I'm up for it anytime, just shoot me a text.
