i bred that in to my dogs, its hard to even let people look at my dogs , cause when a different person walks on my yard they all go in there dog houses and if you try and pet them they would bite. some of my younger pups dont act like this as much as my older ones. i trained 2 yellers one time to hood hunt and when the guy came and got them and took them hunting they wouldnt do anything for him. he told every body that i didnt train them cause they wont hunt . they didnt no him and he tryed ground hunting.lol most of mine that i breed come shy and catchy short range . you just hallor at them and they hit the ground, no need for wipping them. i still have some 10 yr old yellers and they act the same still today. if theres alot of plp with me my yellers wont come to the truck they stop 20 yards out and i have to go get them. iv just gotten use to it. one thang about it if i ever leave one out dont have to worry about some body picking it up.

Granted we haven't had our dogs long but if they wanna eat around here they have to come when called and jump on the truck when told (and stay on it as well). No time for timid dogs regardless how well they hunt.

the biggist problum is, most people feed the pup and go in the house and don't spend enough time with them. Then they expect the dog to hunt and obey automatically when they turn 8 months old. They dont play with the pup and maybe get in the dog house with the pups let them know who you are. I have some pups that are 8 weeks old and they have been to the pond to swim, been all thru the woods, down to the creek, riding the 4 wheeler, introduced to all kinds of things. If I could figure out how to post pictures. FORREST send me a PM with number

you be right...sometimes it is genetics...but most of the time it is that the pups were not handled enough during the critical socialization period which before 8 weeks old...When the pups are 2-3 weeks old I throw in a sweaty t-shirt of mine in the puppy house and they will not be timid around me as they grow...they come and smell and lick my feet when they are 3 weeks old...they start out very social with me doing this little trick...sometimes it is the little things that makes a big impact...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...
