Made a fine hunt today with some good friends off here. Jon(hoghunter71409), Casey(caseydejohn), and myself made a hunt this morning thanks to Jon's hospitality.

Dogs did what we wanted em to and found the big hogs on the place.  Caught two dang good Barr hogs this morning.  It was an eventful hunt and well worth the drive Casey made from TX to come hunt.

It's all to much to type a big story but here are the pictures.

Some of the dogs!

Here's the first Barr hog the dogs bayed.  Casey was ahead of me and Jon was alil behind us leading the catchdog and I hear Casey holler and hit a tree and here comes what looks like a bull yearling down the trail running from the dogs and we were right in his way.  He had me dead to rights but luckily he turned and went another way or I'd had been screwed. Definitely a stomach turning moment for everyone. I Thought my pokey dog was rough, guess he aint cuz he bayed and Casey's Hairy dog caught him and held him!

Here's the second Barr. It would have a nice video of him being bayed and running the dogs.  He was playing king of the hill and really put the horn to most every dog on the ground.  He was rank for sure.

Here's a few more pictures.  We all guessed the first Barr at about 310.  He was real thick and had a big neck on him.  The second hog went every bit of 330, he was a pretty long hog and big in his own right.  Both of these were a lot of hog and we are real lucky to have all the dogs make it even though some got the horn pretty dang good.

I had a lot of fun Ben. Thanks for the invite, even if it was last minute.

Jon I hope your lil gyp makes it. It was nice meeting you.

Peach, it wasn't had to talk me into making the drive. All Ben had to say was they had good dogs, big hogs, and a place that wasn't closed down for deer season...

I had a great time man. I don't know about the good dogs part.

We had a good hog bayed Saturday night, but one dog had something on his mind other then the hog, so we didn't get him caught  Angry

Casey,

I think she is going to make it.  When I got home I realized that she had a poke up under her side; I could hear air coming in and out..I knew it wasnt good.  I immeadiately took off for the nearest vet that I thought would help on a Sundat afternoon.  She was nowhere to be found.  I then went to the local emergency vet.  The vet on duty is from my normal vet.  She told me that there were two broken ribs and half the lung had already collapsed.  I've been hunting this gyp for eight years; my throat went right to my stomach.  This gyp is not only a real good dog, she is my best friend.  The vet said the only way she would make it would be make the 2.5 hour drive to LSU or 3.5 hour drive to Mandeville.  Vet told me to expect $1500 or more.  I hauled but to mandeville (still in my hunting clothes, wet boots and all).  I left the emergency clinic at about 8:30 pm and made the 4.5 hour drive home.  I had only been home for a few minutes and the clinic called.  Surgery went well and much to the vets suprise, she was alreay up walking around like nothing ever happened.  This morning I made the trip back to pick her up and I took her to my vet to get her side fixed.  THey want to contiuue watching her chest cavity to make sure.

It definetly was a good hunt.  The club presidet called me today and asked when could I come back.  He said there are a lot more barrs in there just like these two.  He also wants the big boar gone.  I think this time I may bay and shoot!  I will be buthering hogs tomorrow night.

Ben,

We must have taken similar pics.  I'll add a couple of more:

Just to add a little to the story...

We didnt drive the rangers 300 yds from where we parked the trucks and decided to turn loose.  Once we truned dogs loose, it was less than 15 minutes when the dogs showed bayed at 232 yds.  After the first barr was caught, dogs rolled out and bayed number 2 at 171 yds.  The number 2 barr did break but they stopped him again on the hill at 500 yds.  The funny thing is the lease is pretty big and we never went more then 799 yds from where we turned out at.  We never went more than 1000 yds from the truck.
