Turn in resumes to the JV office in Beaumont Texas, 17 welders and 13 pipe fitters just walked off a job at flint hills in port arthur, i don't personally know what exactly is goin on all I heard was that they were told 34 hr and double time but double time is not going to be paid so they all walked.
Just a heads up for anyone who may be lookin for work

Aint no different than when a new contractor took over for aviation maint in afghanistan. They lowered wages to $15hr, 84hrs a week with no OT. They wanted folks to live and work in an austere environment for less than stateside wages and not allow anything over 48hrs a wk to be considered OT X1.5 numorous bases lost nearly all the civilian mech n the military ask for a rebid n the contractor lost the contract bc they couldnt maintain 75% strength.

If I understand this, they would pay overtime ($51/hr) after 40/wk ... just not double time ($68/hr)

Thats their right. Maybe they can make more else where. The company stated their terms... the workers stated theirs... it didn't work out so they parted ways. The company owes the workers nothing and the workers owe the company nothing. Thats the free market.

Na these were all good ol boys, it wasnt greed, it was the fact that the company told them upon hire on that it was a double time job. The double time was supposed to start last week and everyone was expecting it, this morning after working a week of assumed double time they were told that they weren't getting it. Its the principle of things.

Halfbreed if it was a Union they wouldnt be walking out they would be getting the double time bc it would have been in a contract not just said. Unions may not be the best these days but at least they wont let you get screwed like these ole boys where!

Joe can spend the coin on his ranches, and his house, but he doesn't like paying his creditors in a timely fashion. Can't say I am surprised to hear that he had some welders drag up over pay. I won't ever sell to JV on credit again.

If them gents were told $34hr @ double time, then they should be paid that, but according to dept of labor, they have no case unless it was put in writing. Thats the same princapile of why aecom lost their contract overseas. Those that signed a contract for 160K with old company and when new company comes in, they cut the pay by nearly 60k. A lot of them guys packed their tools n cloths and hopped a bird outa there.

There for a while JV (JVIC) was paying top dollar monday through Friday and Monday through Thursday after 8 hrs per day it was time and a half which is about unheard of...Then Friday night all the way to 7 AM on Monday... was considered the weekend and week end pay was double time even though some of the guys didn't work any of the week days and didn't have 40 hours...In other words 40 hours didn't have anything to do with time and a half or double time...these guys had it made for a while...one thing I can say is that they had the best craftsmen and safety record when they were paying top dollar...
