I have a 8 month old female 3/4 American 1/4 Catahoula that I want to use for a RCD. She's currently in heat and driving the other males crazy. Would it hurt or hinder her hunting or drive abilities to have her spayed once she's out of heat to prevent any future unwanted pregnancies? Thanks in advance for any feedback regarding this issue. What I've learned from some of the veterans of doggin is that it shouldn't hurt her hunt, just give her plenty of excercise cause she will pack on the weight if you don't, I havn't experienced it myself yet, but will soon with my cd.

Nah it shouldn't hurt.....I have a male leopard dog that got his boys pinched off by a cow (then the vet finished it for him).....and he still hunts fine.....in fact, I can take him with my gyps even if they are in heat......cuz he cares not bout the ladies anymore..... Grin

But the ladies do tend to get chunky when they get fixed....

it wont hurt her hunting ability at all.. or shouldnt.. but she will pack on some pounds like HogzgoneWild said.. just put her on a small diet a couple weeks after getting it done and put her on either a treadmill or you might laugh but a horse walker.. put a piece of meat in front of her face just far enough where she cant reach it lol she will run her ass off to get it!

Oh I am gonna try it, I've got a red nose thats a little too stocky, I wanna slim her up a bit before I get her fixed, but I'm gonna miss my lead in hog call, its hilarious, when her gear is on she sounds like a pig walking and gruntin!

i have a female catch dog thats 9 yrs old ,, i had her spayed when she was 2 and certian times of the year a new male dog will ride her like she is in full heat..

im not shure if the vet missed a small gland or what  ,,  you might ? your vet about that before having it done

i do think it a great idea, i have my male catch dogs nuetered.
