i have a dog that barks constently in the pen. he will just walk in circles and bark. I put a bark collar on him and he barks till the battery goes dead. could this dog be deaf??  if so, what are some tests to see if he is?

If he was deaf the collar would still shock him. Turn the juice up on that collar. He could be just hard headed.

Catch him while he is asleep and step outside and shoot a 12 ga. shotgun. If he does'nt move then he is either deaf or got hit by a ricochet ! Grin

If you can't figure out if he's deaf any other way, and you really wanna know, veterinarians can conduct a hearing test called a BAER test. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2643461/

Snap your fingers or jingle some keys when he is sleeping or laying facing away from you. Do not shoot a shot gun to see if he's deaf.
He will feel the blast or percussion. You can also drop a metal feed pan when he is sleeping. Just make sure he can't feel the wind from it.
Some dogs are not completely deaf but have what is known as directional hearing.
