nothing taken to offense but the breed is hardly a hound. i can show you hounds all day every day. ive owned a dogo/pit as a yard dog and loved him but no where is it close to a hound. it may have hound blood but they are more to a mastiff.

i can waiver when im wrong but no where in writing can a dogo be a hound

I agree they hardly look like a hound n many consider them a mastiff but when the breed originated it was in the hound class look at all hounds not jus the ones from around here few look the same as a generic hound we think of

Dogos are not considered a hound. They are apart of the mastiff group. They are known as the "Dogo Argentino" or an "Argentine Mastiff".

a dogo is from what i have understood from the breeder that i bought my two from and just looked it up from the man who breed the dog the dogo is a hound not trying to go back and forth but i say hound and so do the two brothers who breed the dogs antonio nores martinez and agustin nores martinez i quote "The Dogo Argentino is an endurance hound much like his Irish
Wolfhound ancestor. He is expected to track the wild boar across vast
pampas, corner the animal and attack and hold it for the hunters. He is
capable of dazzling bursts of speed for short distances, but his forte
is covering long distances at a gallop (hence the arched loins to give
impetus at the gallop). Having cornered the boar, he must have enough
strength in reserve to attack and hold a wild boar weighing up to 400
pounds. In a traditional boar hunt the hunter will jump on the boar and
kill it with a knife thrust to the heart while the Dogos are locked on
 with a death grip."

yes your right. they have hound blood in them. but they are not hounds. the scent is from the bird dog. the gamey traits are from the wolfhound. but they are not hounds. when those fellas were building that dog they might have wanted a hound but they built a mastiff.  Grin

these are hounds Grin

The dogo was started with the "fighting dog of cordoba". They have hound mixed in them but they aren't considered a hound. If they wanted to create a hound I would imagine they would have used a hound as a base dog.

Miscellaneous class; Working group designation. Ranging in size from 23½ to 27 inches tall at the shoulder. Big-game hunter; guardian.

The dogo is know a known breed to the akc, they have them in the working group. You can look it up on the akc website

I'll take any of my dogos over a pit every day of the week. Don't get me wrong I've hunted with some good pits, hell I even have a pit mix. But in my eyes nothing compares to the catching power of a dogo. They have so much heart, they're very loyal, they have enough lung to be a strike dog, not just a lead in catch dog. People base their opinions off of one or two bad dogos. If you hunt with a well bred dogo, you will see that they have NO fear. They're very intelligent, also they are great with children and if you socialize them as their growing up, they are great with other dogs.

Just to clarify, are you saying that there are no well bred dogo culls?

working group not a hound group. i could care less what some foreign country says about a mixed up mastiff. i read the site and you may have to re-read the first sentence in the "personality" section. the base was a mastiff. so they are mastiffs  Wink Grin

dont get me wrong i would run a dogo in a heartbeat

i just feel you cant compare a dogo vs a pit cause they are two different breed types. didnt come from me but i know a couple of pits that would give a dogo a run for its money. ive owned one.
