Good lookin leopard dog on the deck and good hogs. Where you huntin on the lake. My cousin huntin around Buck Head Ridge Thursday and caught a couple.

We put in at Uncle Joe's in Moore Haven and went to Observation, there is another place other people have been catching a boat load of hogs off of but I do not remember the name...we talked to a boy out of Clewiston said they roped 15 off a boat last week.
There are a bunch of hogs just outside of Buckhead, we used to have permission to trap on the Dike but people screwed with our traps more than it was worth so we quit.
It was nice to change it up but the spiders were so bad I do not care to go back until a good cold snap hits lol it is dang nasty....I definitely give props to those who hunt State Land all the time lol I won't lie, I am spoiled by good road hunting out of the truck.

It is definitely up, we went two weeks before and were running dry ground and this time most of the island had a few inches of water...it is pretty neat how a hog can adapt to live any where, they are pretty similar to roaches  It is an air craft, I think it is a 420 or 520?? But I am not very versed in the motors lol growing up my dad had a 540 and it is smaller than that. My brother in law owns it and it isn't a bad little boat but now my husband wants one bad. They are just so high maintenance that I do not want to be bothered with the cost. |

I hunt Venus and everything is under water...hogs are pushed up on the higher ground=easy pickings!!!! nice dogs and hogs!

Ryan, it is an air boat. It is definitely something different, our dogs have to be tied but the leopard dog rides and winds. We pulled up to the island and kicked out our 'woods dogs'....they kept making loops until they jumped / bayed and then one of our rough dogs caught it....then you can just crank up and drive to them.
One part of the island is open and then the other was nasty and filled with spiders the size of my 6.5ft brother in laws hands lol with bull gators bellering at a distance...it is not for the faint of heart as the hogs donot think twice about hitting the water.
I like it but would rather do it in the cold weather for sure.

That's crazy! I can deal with spiders, thought not very partial to it. LOL! But gators... I don't know about that!  I think it would be a pretty cool experience though, and to be able to float/skim right to em probably can't be beat. Do you have to keep a look out when you are turning and tying so a gator doesn't roll up on you? |

When they are in the water it is a hustle, we have had two dogs gator caught - one was swimming a ditch but he fought back and lived but the other wad snatched off the bank at a bay and we found him a few days later.
Saturday when we caught the listed hog two gators showed up (or we noticed them) once we got the hog up the bank...they come to a barking dog and splashing water quick..it is always in the back of everyone's head lol and it is definitely something you never get used to!

I wouldn't purposely get in the water but we have roped them and drug them up the bank or snagged them with fusing poles. Do y'all not have them out there? If there is a puddle you are guaranteed there is something in it.
We used to swim in some really sketchy places that you couldn't talk me into getting on now...I remember as a lid swimming in a rock pit that the owner had attempted to rid of a gator but he never found him until he seen him still swimming around a few days later and we swam in that pit all weekend long.
They seem a lot more brassier these days then back when we were little...I sure wish they would open the doors to hunting them or give out ore tags.

I don't want to change the subject too much, but the last few posts reminds me of something funny. (now)
I had to swim a big slough to one of my Jagds (now deceased) a couple years ago. She swam a pretty good boar to death, and went to the bank and bayed the dead body. When I got to an open spot and crawled out I realized I was sitting in a fresh slide. I caught the dog, walked out to the highway and didn't swim back to my boat.
My wife was furious "you left your boat in the river!". In the first story I told her I left out the part about the gator slide. When I told her the tone changed and she expressed concern by looking deep into my eyes and saying you are a dumb***.
I haven't lost any dogs to gators yet, but we have plenty of them around here.

Our motto is 'go hard or go home' lol most people cannot or will not hang with us ... I have a hard time hanging with Allen but with age he is slowing down a little. We were up 24+ hours before we finally passed out for a short nap just before day light when we caught the lusted hog, the pump man work us up when he cranked that old raggedy Detroit engine up  Cold weather is trying to come and with it comes a whole lot of sleepless nights My Nitro dog swam the entire length of the ditch where the dog that lived was caught and the entire time I thought he was a goner...the hog just refused to go to the bank. It worries the Heck out of me and it is really eerie when you see them just hanging out not far from where the hog was or swimming down the canal coming to a barking dog...I hate them for sure! |

Those are some healthy hogs ya'll caught. The dog in the boat is neat looking. We were hunting last week and a friend of ours lost a young dog in the pond to a gator. It is a bad feeling and it made me feel even worse when we were tromping around looking for her but never found her or the collar in the middle of the night.

Ive been fortunate, all the places ive hunted the gators had all been "re-homed" prior to me hunting there. Ashley your right though, i remember swimmin and canoeing with them rhings as a kid but now? NO FREAKIN WAY!!! My kid dont seem scared o them though, we saw one at the zoo and he wanted to climb the fence and grav it  . No idea where he gets it. |

Gators ain't no joke. At the belle glade marina there's an island that's filled with hogs. You can only get to it by airboat, or if your lucky when it dry you can get to it by buggy. But there's way to many gators to risk it. We went once & just loaded the dogs back up.
