So I've heard a few people talk about July hounds and have been trying to learn a little about the breed but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot out there. If anyone knows much about them or hunts any I'd love to hear about them or see some pics.

My buddies got a 1/2 July 1/2 cur. He's got a hell of a nose and he's real rangy with lots of bottom but he's open on track.

I won't sit here and say I have hog hunted with any but what I will say is I personally wouldn't consider it. There are quite a few fellows around here that use them for fox and yote hunting and make a fortune selling pups and started dogs. I have seen them work and they run a fox track beautifully, I'm talkin get down straddle that track, drive it, a good bawl on track, and put a fox on the end of it. Those dogs are bred to fox hunt. I know there are folks out there that use them but it's much easier to reach out and find a cat, bmc or some other proven line to improve on that has already been proven on hogs. It will save you a lot of time and money as well. JMO which don't mount to much haha

I was thinking more about using one to breed into a line of dogs and not as much using one for hogs.

i have a buddy that hunts one but doesn't bring him when we are hunting together - he is mainly a cat man and i prefer bmc's and just a hint of hound in them but main dog is full bmc. i will ask him for more info but i know he is wide open on track but he says he does find hogs and is pretty rangy.

JMO but personally i prefer just an 1/8 or 1/4 plott hound from proven line mixed in with my bmc's. like i said thats just what i found works good for me - everybody has their own opinions and you try what u want and get the dogs working and hunting like you want and you should be satisfied. Hell i would be satisfied with any ol mutt that finds and bays hogs like i want. don't give a hoot about papers or certain breeds really as long as the dog hunts the way i see fit - to each his own......
