no down fall they might hang on something now and again , just be sure and watch them and keep the nails trimmed so they don't curl around and grow back into the leg .

lots of natural bob tails and single dew claws as well as double dew claws in the mt. cur breed...I don't care for dew claws but it is not a big issue. Natural bob tails are ok as long as the tails are not real short because it can become as problem...I prefer the pups to be born with a normal tail and the dock it as a little pup so that it will be about 5 inches when the pup is born...

I just trim em as needed, to where it is only a 1/4 length of a full nail, very seldom i have a problem, 1 out of 10 hunts will he limp any

meant to say when the pup is grown...not born...

I've got two young dogs with full size double dews on the back,  Their about 10 months old now and I have just started hauling them. I keep them trimmed to about half their normal length and have'nt had any trouble. I've done the same thing with others that I have had in the past and only had one rip out a nail.

Best to cut them off when there born. I cut all dew claws off with toe nail clipers at a day or two old .Solves the problem!! Hunt'um Up !!
