It's a good day to have a great day!

I am tired and it has been a long day, so this story will be short!
We had two Iraq veterans, that wanted to hunt this weekend. We planned on making the run at the Farm which we have not hunted in a year, but thought this was perfect occasion to go to the honeyhole. Alot of effort and help from several people made this hunt go succesful.
We barely started, had a little trouble getting one dog to cross the river with us, by the time I got to the top of river bank, My Deuce gyp was already already 600+ yds. and some of the other dogs going that way, bayed quick and when we drove around to try and get a closer acces to them, they had already gone quite abit further. The pictures of dogs bayed are what we found, Deuce and Courtneys Tank were another 600 and something yards down river bayed too, so we try to get he hog taken care of quick and get to the other dogs. Long story short, got that hog killed and try to get back to where it easier to get around. The dogs and GPS are not doing what we planned, to many hogs in different directions!  Next  Nugget strikes same time Sherry takes one the opposite direction, ended up getting to Sherry bayed, caught her hog where we could get it out for meat.  Meanwhle Deuce and Buddy are still nearly 800 yds, but we had lost signal alongtme ago and never made it to them, we got them back hour later and it was HOT so we called the hunt with some tired dogs and happy hunters. We got some good video of these dogs bayed in the river. Thomas cleaned and quaterd the hog and put on ice. Some of Thomas family came out to Thank the guys for their service to our country, and Aaron and Courtney were taking the guys Spotlighting tonight were they got two more.

Thanks Guys. It was an honor for me & mine to give something back to those serve our Country. Daniele the fella in pic on the right  took a bullet to his spine, the other guy name is Brain and he also served his tour in Iraq, and both are Navy men stationed near Corpus Christi. Those guys loved every minute of being in the woods too! Their humor had us rolling!  They are welcome back anytime.

I know TDHA & ETHD including many of the associates of both have done numerous Wounded soldier hunts the past two years. I would like to continue doing them as well. The only thing we are lacking is Communication to offer more oppertunities for Soldiers to take hunting. I think would be great if we had a regular program were we could together get involved, involve more hunting operations in the same way to provide more hunts for more veterans.  Some of the soldiers have physical limitations that require special needs that are not always easy to get on a dog & hog hunt, but all the soldiers I have met so far, Have no expectattions are extremely grateful for any hunt, bow hunt, stand hunt, deer hunt, fishing, whatever, they were happy! I think what touches my heart the most after meeting these folks, is that they are so appreciative, I try to tell them that "NO, it is us that appreciate what you have given for us", and they just think it is too much, they were just doing their duty, and think nothing of it at all. That whole attitude just makes me well up!

Krystal,

I agree that we need to figure out a way to get more of these soldiers hunting opportunities.  When I was working on putting one together, every single person I spoke with was more than willing to help in any way possible, I think that most just don't know how to go about helping. It seems that it just takes some initiative from one person to get the ball rolling, and before you know it a successful hunt is behind you.

If anyone on ETHD is wanting to do a Wounded Warrior hunt but does not know how to go about getting the ball rolling, feel free to contact me and I will get you some contacts and help in any way that I can.

Chris,

i have a friend that runs a hunting ranch outside of pearsall that's always looking for opportunities like this.  he did a show last year for "Spirit of the Wild", they had a few guys there in wheelchairs that hunted sheep.  then he did a hunt for a couple of young people that were wheelchair bound for hogs at his ranch as well. so, if they had some that were mobility impaired he has the facilities and vehicles to accomodate them. if you could send me some contact info i would definitely pass it along to him.  he's good people, we always have fun over there and they've got an awesome ranch.
