Dodge 2500 diesel 2006. Starter will start it once then next time go to start it starter will spin.  New batteries new starter fly wheel is good all teeth on starter and fly wheel are good.  Any other suggestions this is the third starter he has gone through with no fix.  Good buddy that is strapped for cash his dad is in and out of hospital waiting on transplant so a expensive fix is out of the question for him right now.

Check the wires going to the starter. See if they are really stiff if they are pinch with a pair of pliers softly and listen closely if it sounds like your squeezeing gravel you found your problem. The wires can develop corrosion on the inside that you don't see. Also ensure you have a good connection at the battery and that you have adequate charge

Most of the times I find my answer on the net. Should be some dodge forums that you can go to and find others with the same problems. Just joking on the earlier post.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong but is rhe bendix not the gear that comes out of the starter?  I was wrong this is hos seventh new starter 5th in the last few days.  I am thinking something to do with the wireing and it not geting enough juice to make the starter kick out.  I am no mechanic but if I remember correctly a starter will spin but engage if there is insufficient amps?

X2 if the motor will just spin, the bendix is not engaging the starter gear onto the flywheel teeth. If its an internal bendix, put a reman or new starter on it.

Get a multimeter. If you don't have one you can get a cheap one. Go check the voltage on the battery. I lawys start there to make sure I have it on the right setting. Then with two people check the voltage at the sylenoid and the on the other side when it is cranking. My guess would be after this many starters that if the juice it is not the starter. But instead of guessing just get under there and see if the power is getting to the starter.

I do not know if there is spacer or not on the starter. But find out if there should be one and if there is one or not on the truck.

buyin a ford will just keep you under the hood. they r easy to fix, as long as you dont run out of duct tape nd bailing wire and a pair of slip joint pliers.

Ok make sure flywheel not warped..
They can get cracked and not be straight.
Starter could be bad. Get a good one from dodge.

If it doesn't spin fast enought it won't kick in but hold the key let it
Free spin if it don't kick out but sound strong still. Then I would look
Tward flywheel

When new on put on does it work for little while or same thing.

Centex could be onto something. I didnt even think bout the teeth on the flywheel possibly chewed up. I had a ford chew the bendix gear up after the eng was runin and finaly stoped chewing once the gear was smoothed out by the flywheel n the had a nissan centry that had a lot of teeth missing n would hav to push the car n pop the clutch to get it to roll over to a good batch of teeth. If u can drop the starter out n hav some turn the eng ovr manualy n look at the flywheel teeth as it completes a revolution. If all teeth r theor, then its the starter n it could be any kind of elec problem
