well, we didnt get a ton of rain, thank god, because we are already saturated, but we got some good winds and some storm surge. ITs about 3 feet over our normal high tides still, and sandy is gone.
we also got some ground swell, and let me tell you I have lived here all my life, 25 years, and never seen it like this.
we got waves, its hard to say how big they are, because you measure a wave from the back, but the face of the wave can be two or three times the hight of the back. We also are getting some strong offshore wind which holds up the face of the wave and creates barrels.
now you have to understand, florida is not known for surf like this, I wouldnt say its once in a lifetime, but these conditions are rare, and I have been spending a lot of daylight after work just watching the waves. I drove 30 minutes south today to where this video was taken jjust to stand on the beach and watch.
I find it hard to leave the beach when its like this.
My boss is in the video, on the jet ski, they were doing what is called "step offs" meaning you position the jet ski on the wave doing about 30 mph, then the guy on the back jumps off with his board and rides it out. I think its pretty impressive and thought I would share.
I was working during this video, but I hope to get out there and sling them into a few before the swell is gone.
Im not a surfer myself, but I ride skis every day.
