I went and bought the usual at the feed store i usually buy sportmix, and when they gave me the total it didn't sound right so i asked how much was each 50# bag and the guy said that the price went up 2$/ bag for a total of $30.26. I am just wondering if anyone else has seen an increase in price on the black bag of sportmix and if anyone knows where it might be a little cheaper around the NE Texas area?

lol when i was selling sportmix black bag in 2006 it was 12.50 dealer cost . now it's most than likely around 25.0? dealer cost and the distributors make some lowering that cost  . it really doesn't cost that much to make dog food . it is just marked up sooo much by the middleman .  if i had so desired i could have made 6.00 a bag on the feed and still been in line with the other feed dealers . way too much mark up .

I figured out a long time ago that this "hobby" cost as much as any hobby like race boats or cars except it involves dogs, living creatures that rely on us completey for their needs and entertainment if you can't handle keeping and providing for your animals top shelf then find something you can afford to do top shelf

bmac, you must of misunderstood my post. I did not post this to complain about not being able to feed my dogs, because i can.I simply posted this to find out if the price increase was just at my feed store or everywhere else.

Anyone notice the difference in the appearance of Sportmix lately? Ive been considering switching to something else. Ive had several dogs that wouldn't eat it in the last month. Maybe just a bug going around, but also seems they just ain't performing like they should either.

Just out of curiosity the other day, I looked at the high energy, high protein Ol' Roy (brown bag $23.99 50#).  The number one ingredient in it was pork bone meal I think. Whatever exactly it was, it wasn't corn. Anyone ever tried it?

Price doesn't equate to quality to me when it comes to dog food. I've sampled almost everything this past year - Victor, Sportmix, Purina, etc......

Ran 21 miles on my dogs Sunday on Retriever Blue $19.99 bag.

Thoughts/experience on the Old' Roy?

The lady at the feed store and I were talking about this the other day. Told them to start looking for another brand. Wink

I have been using retriever high protein 27 /15 It has worked good over the last year, but I also feed lots of raw meat. Tractor supply always has it in stock $20 a bag when bought by the pallet $21 by the single 50 pound bag.
