Anytime you start talking about the best, they ain't usually for sale. You better have alot of time to learn the owners and the lines and you might get lucky and get a pup. I've hunted with a bunch of Catahoulas, I've seen one line hunt I'd own, the dennisons.

Culls from any line but I'd own (and do) Whitten blood, Bennett Blood, Harding Blood. Those are just three that have been around for a while. I also own a BMC that is turning into a dog and he is out of cattle stock, Honeywell blood.

roll if ya looking for a good old line of catahoula's that are still bred to work . contact clyd keating in louisiana . he's the only one i know from what i started with that's still alive . clyd sell pups of the caliber of anybody's for blood work , cow work , hog work . they even still tree game pretty well . all this you'd have to go steal a pup from the best is loudicris true the best don't advertise much .lol i can lie and talk my dogs up till they are the best on 3 continents , and if i don't sell any who would know any differant lmao . any line out there there will be execptional dogs and culls and out of any breed the same deal . figure out how you want to or what style of dog you are looking for and go find it and forget about who has the best this or that . hell i ain't bred a full blood catahoula in years , but may start back up since the crazy catahoula rush that just about ruined the breed is over . i've hung on to 3 closely related siblings of my rough stock but when i go to get a dog to outcross on it will be a keating dog . oh and thanks kevin you are too kind lol you should come get that crazy bitch sister to the one you lost before i knock er in da head lol j/k and roll you gonna have to work the crap out of a dog to get a good one no matter where in the world it came from the more work and woods time the better dog in the end . peace out !!!

I disagree to about the best. There is gonna be lines out there, VERY FEW, that produce more exceptional dogs then most. When I start talking about the best, I am using alot of factors, and I'm sure there are lines out there better or as good, but I haven't seen em as far as Catahoulas go.
People have different ideas of exceptional, good, and culls.

I really apreciate everyones input, and halfbreed i know and agree with you 90% you have to spend time using and working any dog for them to be the best. Im 35yrs old and consider my self very lucky to have been raised in a place were there was still open range (ward 8 lasalle parish la) and the old men made there living raising hogs, cattle & commercial fishing. It was like that until i was about 18-19, then they let the city folk vote on our stocklaw and they passed it. I could kick my self for not making sure that them Whatley/Allen catohoulas made it, it was exstremely hard to get one from his ole grouchy a$$ though and i guess maybe out of spite his son let them die out and went to yellow dogs (And not because they were better because the yellow ones "he had" wasnt). But I got to see and use some good dogs that minded better than most kids. Sorry for going on and on, I will check on the Keating dogs. Thanks

I'm from Louisiana as well, the dogs I grew up with were good, But they were just bred and never had no name except referred to by the cow mans name off the yard they came from. My dad is still raising em today, but the dogs are scarce. I still hunt one off them old dogs.

I have a registered Camp-A-While Catahoula. Small, no glass eyes, black and tan in color, nothing special. Most people wont give her a second look. She cant be bought and will lnever leave my yard. It took me 8 years to get her where she is at now and she has been on hundreds of hogs. Together, she and I have made her a hog dog.
They dont become hog dogs over night. Any breed and any line can make it with enough time and patience. Lots of people will tell you this and tell you that. You dont get good at this sport overnight. Get some well bred pups and hunt them for years. You will learn a lot about your dogs and more about yourself.
Look at it this way...you want good lines of dogs; you think those dogs want you?
It aint always about the line of dogs, it is more about the guy hunting the dogs.

I'm not familiar with him.
I take back what I said. Open range died out about the same time all around Louisiana. What I referred to is in certain parts of the parishes on federal land, we could still run marked hogs up until 3-4 years ago.

Catahoulas - Last I talked to Marty he was in Oak Grove (North East). Real near Arkansas border. He still had some of his old blood and between he and a buddy of his that had some of his blood he thought he could get me a pup out of his old line. I'm just kind of leveled off on my dogs for now. No more additions till I figure out for sure what I have. I can say with confidence, if you talk to him and tell him you want something "from the same line Kevin Nevil got from you, the Boudreaux dog." You won't be disappointed.
