It won't mean much to most, but The East Texas Bloodline thread along with the help of Lauren Daniels and Rex Womack put me in touch with an old family friend. Mr. Joe Allen Hooks. I grew up on stories about this old cowboy and his adventures and sure had a blast talking dogs with him.

Some of the dogs I raise go back 60 plus years, they weren't nowhere near line bred, just bred between cowboys close.  That lines about dead and watered down, but Mr Joe Allen will tell you his best dog came from this group of dogs.  I have a litter on the ground of these big brindle stockdogs, and I've gotta carry him one pretty soon.  They aren't much and probably not half the dogs most have on here but it's part ofthe family to keep the sorry suckers around.

I sure hope the pup turns out for him and makes a 1/4 of the dog his old brindle dog was. He's pretty much a living legend to me, kinda like Ben Jordan, Bob Owens, and Herschel Perry was and is to some. None of them even consider themselves true dog men but they were and are. He was a pallbearer at my grandfathers funeral. The Internet can be an amazing thing at times. Just alil something that hit pretty close to home for me, thought I'd share. Heck none of the family has spoke to him in almost 12 years til today.

Yeah it's the same dogs. His littermate sister bred to her uncle and that's the litter on the ground now. Most don't come out looking like my Pokey dog, just alil bigger brindle stockdogs.  They were never line bred hard and no pedigrees really kept up with, and the men that would know are mostly passed except for a few like Mr. Joe Allen.

Yeah the ol Rock dog goes back to Otto's stock.  I spent many a cold morning over there drinking coffee looking at cows. You didn't get out your truck til Otto put a leopard dog up that ran around. Had a bother blue leopard dog that came off Ottos dogs that recently died of old age.

You familiar with those dogs?

I'd sure like to find out if his boys kept any of that blood around, is there away for you to get in touch with em or put me in touch with em?
