ive killed hogs with a 22 but they were all head shots. but one time i shot a hog a 150 yards quartering away that was at a trot with a 243 he only ran 15 yards. i guess thats not to bad. but i THINK they make some 22 shells that have more lead than regular 22 lr. that might work. and i dont think they are real loud neither. nice gun crackerc!!

30 carbine with a red dot scope in my opinion is a really good gun. We have been using them for as long as I can remember they have lots of knock down and the fun is as tough as they come as for as having a fun that can take abuse

7.62x.39 found in many AK's and ranch rifles. (Ruger Mini 30). Very inexpensive ammo yet very reliable and plenty of knockdown and we always shoot Silver Bear soft or hollow points at bays to avoid blowing thru

After getting dogs wrecked a couple times in the past few years by NOT having a gun or only having a .22 I invested in something with a little more ummpphhh.  I don't shoot hogs that often but when I do have to shoot one I want him to go down..NOW!

Most of the rifle calibers will work but in thick woods they are a pain to carry around. Handguns are good but I have never been that good a shot with a pistol. So I bought something in-between.

Its a Rossi RanchHand in .44 caliber. I picked the .44 as I have shot several hogs with a .357 and had them run. That usually doesn't happen with a .44. I even had a buddy make a custom shoulder holster for it. You carry the gun angled across your chest, barrel down. Its out of the way walking and ducking under brush. The gun is too long to hang on your side and not get caught in vines, palmettos and such so I am trying it this way.

I have yet to shoot a hog with it, we have been catching them, but I have shot it at a target and it DOES kick!

I like it!

In my opinion, as was stated above, the M1 carbine is as perfect a gun as there is for shooting hogs over dogs. Been using one for about 15 years and it can't be beat. Uses a 110 gr. bullet and will not shoot through a hog if it is over about 70 lbs. I use a 5 round clip and open sights, it's tough and with a synthetic stock weighs very little. Ammo is not real expensive either.

Put me in the magnum club. Its hard to be those slow moving, pile driving magnum pistol rounds out of a repeating carbine rifle. 357 and 44 mag are my favorite.
