I believe this is the fourth for fifith year for this tournament and they have decided to shoot for the last weekend in Feb.  We are still working on details but there will be fair rules and great prizes.  Will certainly be having a polygraph or some type of system to appease everyone that we are all playing on level field.  In the past we have just used the honor system and really havent had any problems because we all know each other mostly and still take a Man at his word, but I believe this year we are going to have the polygraph or observer for sure.  Put it down on your calendar and if you want to hunt and need some team mates or a place to hunt please do not hesitate to call me and ask and I will see what I can do.

Thanks,

Joey Young

Feb. 22 will be sign in and there will definitely be a weigh in on Saturday from 3pm until 8 and then we will have the final weigh in on Sunday afternoon, but this is not set in stone. We could possibley have just a 24 hour tournament. We definitely want everyone to enjoy themselves and have plenty of time to catch hogs and not be under too much of a time crunch.  This hunt has really brought out the hunters in the past from NW Louisiana and we hope to make it bigger this year.

Will update with final list of rules and time frame soon.

Last year it was money or buckles. Winners choice and paid out through top 5. Not sure about this year.

I want to apologize folks.  I have been extremely busy with work and family that I have not been on top of getting this together for yall.  I talked to the fella putting it on today and he has the rules in the final stages,  and I should have it posted in a day or two.

Some guy found out that there is a law in LA that you can't hunt hogs with dogs at night until march 1st and pushed it to the wildlife and fisheries until the guys putting on the tournament were forced to pull the plug! The game wardens said it wasn't a big deal to them because of the hog problem but this guy forced them to enforce it.

The guy was a wildlife biologist he got mad because it was catch and tie and they were going to sell the hogs to a bay pen for more money. Bad thing is it was a fundraiser for 4-H kids!

I'm gonna do some research on that and get back with info but that sounds like bs to me. I know that the management areas limited the use of dogs to daylight hours BUT if your dogs are still out after dark you simply call you local office and inform them and can try to retrieve the dogs still. As far as private lands go that would be news to me and a BUNCH of other guys in my area.

This tournament is still on and there is nothing in any laws that says you can not hunt with dogs at night for hogs.  It does say you can not hunt for hogs with a gun until March 1.  It does state that you can not pursue any game, but hogs are not "Game", they are an invasive species that in considered loose livestock or nuisance animals, therefore if anyone asks me what I am doing I am "rounding up someone's hogs that got loose"!:)

The thing with the 4H Tournament was a prime example of why we need the Bayou State Dog Hunters Association, LSDHA, and TDHA.  The state wanted to come take blood samples and quarantine the hogs that were brought in.  When they got told "No" they said that they would be out there to check hunting licenses, and make sure that every dog had a health certificate from Louisiana that cleared it to be in our State.  I dont see them doing that at Bay Trials, Coon Hunts, Fox Hunts, Field Trials, etc.  That is nothing more than harassment.

Since the "Pretty Creek Tournament" is not directly affiliated with the 4H/ Louisiana Agriculture dept. we will not have the problems that they have, but we fully intend to raise the money for the kids shooting sports that the State Boys ruined for the 4H hunt.

In fact I plan on hosting my own hunt and gaurantee a good chunk of money to raise money for these kids just to spite the State Boys! Smiley

Side pot for most hogs caught, biggest 3 hogs, biggest boar and heaviest hog. The team that wins biggest 5 (main event) can't win biggest 3 hogs, etc. or at least that is how I understand it. There has been a few complaints about the new rules so they may go back to the rules that have always been in place for this tournament but I don't know for sure right now. They are basically the same but not as detailed.
