What found wasn't totally clear, but it did say if they kill your dog and take its tracking collar off then its a felony.

I DONT KNOW HOW IT IS IN TEXAS BUT IN FLORIDA IF YOU SHOT A MANS DOGS ITS USUALLY TAKEN CARE OF OUTSIDE OF THE LAW... WITH THAT BEING SAID IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT WITHIN THE LAW (FLORIDA) YOU CAN BE PROSECUTED FOR SHOTING A DOG IF FOUND THAT IT WAS AN UNJUSTIFIABLE REASON, IT WOULD BE AGGRAVATED ANIMAL CRUELTY, AND AS FAR AS THE THEFT OF THE COLLAR GOES IT WOULD ONLY BE FELONY IF THE PRICE OF THE COLLAR WAS $300 OR MORE. YALL WILL HAVE TO CHECK TO SEE WHAT MAKES THEFT WHERE YALL ARE AT A FELONY. BUT JUST BECAUSE THE DOG WAS ON A TREE OR WAS WEARING A TRACKING COLLAR DONT MAKE IT FELONY... SHOOTING THE DOG AND STEALING THE COLLAR ARE TWO SEPERATE CHARGES.

Each state can add to or modify a current law thats in effect. If the state/s make it a felony to shoot a dog and or remove the tracking collar, then it wont matter if the collar was $1 or $1000.
I feel the same as yaw bout handling in the woods with no law around.

Yup if my dog gets shot like that it will be handled in the woods if I can get to the them and know without a doubt he done it .  Then it can be handled by the law after I get my justice out of it and if they want to put some justice on me for taken it up in the woods right then and there well thats fine by me .  Atleast I got my satisfaction on his head !

No call for that unless the dog is doing harm to his livestock are person then I would hand him the gun and the bullit to do it with no matter how good the dog was of mine.  But just dont shoot my dog for no reason there will be trouble on both sides of the fence .

If some body shoots one of my my dogs they won't have to worry about the law because I will be a felon over it because there will be two killings that day

NOW LETS STOP WITH THE OPEN ENDED THREATS! IN MY FIRST POST WHEN I SAID "IT WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF OUTSIDE THE LAW" I DIDNT MEAN TO OPEN THE REST OF THIS THREAD TO EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT SHOOTING PEOPLE OR GOING TO PRISON..... THIS THREAD WAS ONLY TO HAVE A QUESTION ANSWERED, NOT TO MAKE STATEMENTS TO WHOEVER. IM PRETTY SURE IF SOMEONE SHOTS SOMEONES DOG THEY ALREADY KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES, OR SHOULD HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA ANYHOW. LETS NOT MAKE THIS THREAD A BIGGER DEAL AND GET EVERYONE FIRED UP ABOUT A SIMPLE QUESTION THAT WAS ASKED. AND THE QUESTION WASNT "WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR DOG WAS SHOT"?

You really dont want to give dogs any type of rights............. It is a felony in Texas to shoot a dog with out cause. BUT, cause is easy to give in court.

not sure about any where else. but as of january first 2013 here in california  game wardens have the right to shoot and kill any dogs found having a bear or bobcat treed on the spot.also landowners here have the right to shoot and kill any dogs that are on wild game or livestock on their property. this includes chasin pursueing or harming the  animals.

Hopefully 1 day your cali politician will end up burried n bleedn out under a buildn just aftr an earthquake. Most of the stupid national  laws spawn from california. That state is poluted n cant wait to polute the rest of this country. When is open season on politicians?

In Texas it is against the law to shoot a dog with a orange REFLCTIVE collar or you can go to jail!!! My very close friend is in animal control and has actually witnessed a person going to jail for it...orders not matter if it's on your property it's illegal

This just happened the first week of Dec on white river refuge in Elaine Ar. A mans coon dog treed on private land and the owner went to the dog without a gun to get him off the property when the landowner stopped him and said don't go get that dog I'm going to kill him. The owner told him he was going to get his dog he told him he was going to shoot him if he went to get the dog the man told him shoot me I'm going after my dog. He got to the tree snapped his leash on the dog and the landowner killed the dog and to my knowledge the landowner was a big shot in a one horse town and nothing has been done yet. I hope and prey that nothing like this ever happens to me!!!

I asked a local police officer about shooting a dog on your property to protect your livestock, etc.
He said just shooting a dog for being on your property is a no no but shooting a dog to protect your property, livestock, chickens, cats, dogs, whatever is legal.

Sounds like it would be hard to prove otherwise if a man SAID the dog was after something and there were no eye witnesses. If it ever happens just gotta hope they were a dumbass and admitted to doing it out of malice.
