Who has some pups or young dogs that they have high hopes for? Lets see some pics and tell us how they are bred. Now is your chance to show your up and coming pups! Here are my two "hopefulls" for this winter. One is red and one is a red ringneck, both females. Sire is a good red cur dog named Bob, dam is my Red female who is a first cousin to my Dixie dog (their mothers were littermates). I like the way they act especially the red one. First litter for both parents so I don't really know what to expect....I am just hoping one of the two turns out.........better yet, hope both do!!! First pups I have raised and kept in over two years, sure hope they do what I want......

Well, the fact that I have owned Fla curs for about 26 years, catch hogs regularly with them , yet have never owned, fed or led a bulldog, would show they tend to be a little on the gritty side....... Just like any other breed some are grittier than others, but from what I have seen the Fla curs, as a breed, are grittier than the YBM and Catahoula dogs. I am sure there are exceptions, I am just talking about the breed as a whole. My Rock dog, who is a littermate to Dixie, is 11 years old and retired. He was a finished cow dog that we used to pen 500 cow/calf pairs plus about 35-40 bulls. I turned down big money for him as a cow dog, yet I used him as a lead in catch dog on hogs for about 7 years and he has NEVER barked a hog in his life...straight catch. My buddies used to say "He is straight cur, he will back up and bay one day". Well, that was when I first started using him as a catch dog. After about a year or two and a bunch of 175-225 lb bad boar hogs caught with him, they said "You know, we don't think he is going to bay"........ Largest boar we caught with him and weighed was 284 lbs with almost 3" teeth and we caught the hog with just Rock and Dixie.

already posted this in the "let's see 'em" post...but again this is kopa 1/2dogo 1/2 bmc. the dogo(sire)has caught many hogs of all sizes and never thinks just catches. the bmc is a short ranged great hog dog. she has split from the pack and bayed up a group of hogs by herself until the rest got there. at 8months she has found hogs(in controlled situations), stopped them from running, and will definately bay a hog. she's the biggest of the pups my buddy kept. she looks like a black dogo..lol...only time will tell.

Like that first red pup, good head on her. What was Rock's style hitting a hog, comicazi or smart about it? Did you use anything more than a cut collar with him?

Rock was more Kamakazee style than I would have liked actually. When he was turned loose he went THROUGH anything between him and the hog instead of around it......he got a little better with age, but was still wide open. Rock is close to 75-80 lbs so he definately was an anchor when he got there.....and required a break stick to get him off.
I never free cast him on hogs, I led him in until we saw the hog or were within 50 feet or so, then turned him loose. He ALWAYS wore a cut collar and vest...always. As soon as we had the hog tied, I would drop the vest off him to cool him down. Often, in the summer, I would soak the vest in water before I put it on him to help keep him cool. Course, more times than not I was the one carrying the wet smelly vest back to the truck....
I like the red pup too Noah. She is smart ....always watching me and whats going on, more so than the ringneck. I like a smart dog, makes it easier to teach things to.

CrackerC Lee ever tell you how he got that Bob dog? Its kinda funny. He was out huntin and found the dog. Bob had tags with the owners name and number. Lee called the guy and was gonna give him back to him. but the guy said he didnt know what he was talkin about. Mustve been poachin his place. No way i coulve let a dog like Bob go that easy.

This was the first time I had "drum" out ,hes the white fella and really surpised me at only 5-1/2 months old, he showed alot of hunt that day coming & going for up to ten mintues ,back tracking well . After watching the dogs on this 100lb boar for a few seconds he locked onto the hogs head . :oHis Dam is a pit x lab and his Sire was a great danex greyhound /bull cattle (type of collie).Hes going to make a good dog but I don't plan on hunting him again till hes much older ,he just needs time to grown & be a pup .

my pups an 8 weeks old catahoula. when he was 7 weeks old i heard barking and went outside to find him baying the family duck. hes also real gritty. his favorite thing to do is fight the family cat which is about double his size. and today i dragged a hot dog on the ground and hid it. he put his nose to the ground and went right to it. i think hell make a great hog dog.

sfboarbuster, no I never heard that about Bob. I knew Lee didn't know how he was bred, but figured he got him from someone as a pup.
I like the Bob dog, he has a head full of sense, good nose, and is gritty. But, Lee has never bred him before so we have no idea of what he will produce. I have two of the pups and Lee has two out of that litter. There were only four live pups.
We will see this winter how they do!!

Two yellow curs. Come out of some solid stock. having problems getting the darker one to fire up, but the lighter yellow one hates a hog and is VERY independant, almost to point of never being able to catch her Uno, Mason Catdo. litter mate to Cull Bucks and Dexters.

Good looking pups Crackerc. I sure like red curs! This gyp is the best prospect Ive had in years and I do have high hopes for her. She is bread and out of a friends line that has to be pushing 20 years of breeding but I cant say exactly. She found, bayed, and help catch this 242# boar Good Friday of this year after 6 hours of hunting. Ive actually lost count of the hogs she has found and bayed this Spring and Summer as a puppy. She is 13 months old now. I will say that most of the hogs she has found wouldn't have been much of a challenge for even an average dog but she is getting tested in other areas by her self and she hasn't disappointed me yet. She has the hunt, speed, and brains I am looking for in a dog but Im still waiting and hoping for a colder nose and some more bottom to show up. I think its there but she is still very young and only time will tell. She still has a lot of showing to do but so far so good. She is a very rough pup but she is showing signs of improvement. She has started waiting for me to get there before she catches the smaller hogs and after a few good whippens from big hogs she is backing up and baying better. I didnt teach her that but I sure like it!
