i have a dog that got his saphenous hind leg ankle vein cut today he bleed out got to him in time to tie it off bleeding has stopped hes been eating an drinking gums are getting color again he looks fine just worried if he needs to see a vet so he will hunt another day with 4 legs our will it just heal fine only reason im asking there is no cheap or good vets around thanks

You can buy a couple of pounds of raw beef liver and give a chunk of it every day after he is fed his regular ration...don't hunt him for a couple of weeks or it can open up and he could possibly bleed out...
I been down that road before...the dog made it but it was close...he had bled out bad enough that he was going in to shock...

if its not severed to far from the other end, it should reconnect its self. the main concern would be an artery. if not already done, close the wound up as close as u can n leave a drain hole and the vein didnt retract to far it will reconnect.

He'll do fine with one vein tied off, the blood flow will be handled by all the veins runnin up the leg. Saphenois is harvested all the time in people, for coronary bypasses, femoral- popliteal bypasses, etc

once again thanks for the info every one. after getting the vein to stop bleeding last night for around 3 hours it popped again got the bleeding under control an got him to the vet his saphenous vein was severed i think m bennet here knows my hunting partner mohogger from missouri
