Cut on the stomach muscles , got a couple sutures and a few staples only leaving a small drainage spot. Been up with him all night Trying to keep him warm to avoid shock. he lost a fair amount of blood and was shivering inside with the heater turned up to 85. Long night of blankets and petting. got him to eat some table scraps and drink some water once he warmed up. hit him with penicillin and some vetricyn. He won't lay down because of the pain, I'm used to dogs laying down for a few days as they recover but he is just sitting up. anything I might have around here or that I can go buy to help the pain?Huh???

Really?  Take the dog to the vet. That dog gave you all it had hunting for you.  You now need to do all you can for it.

And yes....I am telling you what you need to do.

You are doing nothing good for the image of hog hunters with your post.

Charles, Thanks, ill have to throw some in my first aid bag bag. He finally found a comfortable position to lay down and was all tail wags when I woke up.

Jsh, I can see maybe where ur coming from but I'm not so sure hog hunters hauling dogs into a animal hospital every time they're cut probably is the best choice for hunters either. Keep in mind they do not know me, the dogs,  or the sport....just sayin

Find u a hog hunter friendly vet. There are some out there. They understand and as long as u are doing what u need to do with ur dogs they will not say a word. They will also help u get a good cut kit together with quality staplers staples and other essential items. The good ones will even tell u what to do in cases that u can handle.

I think numbing kills the pain. Iv nvr felt the pain when i was numb. Its the same thing no matter how its administered. Pain killers block the nerve receptors just as a liquid numbing mixture does, only it kills the pain localy, thats why its called a local anistetic, or local for short.

Hydrocodone works

Not sure what dose you've given of this
but I gotta chime in a word of advice.......

be VERY VERY VERY and did I say VERY careful giving a dog hydrocodone. We have treated dogs before that got sick from accidentally ingesting this. Buffered Baby Aspirin is the only thing over the counter that is commonly given to dogs. There is Tylenol in Hydrocodone that is also harmful to dogs. I've actually never heard of anyone giving a dog Hydrocodone safely.

Some human drugs are safe and used in dogs, but even more human drugs can be very harmful.

X2. Most human drugs r deadly to canines. Human meds r given to dogs but in way smaller dosages.

I use carbocaine for a local... You should just be able to find a vet and buy a bottle for 20 bucks. That's what I did.

Is there a pet specific website that offers it, ie: jeffers pet supplies?

if you can get a bottle of dexamethasone its a cortico steriod and will reduce the inflamation and swelling and give the dog some comfort especially if you give as quick as possible before any swelling starts
