Normal feeding time for my dogs is about 5 pm, daily.  When we make a hunt in the mornings I don't give any feed, I just wait till their normal feeding time.  Do any of you do the same and do any of you feed before you hunt them ?

I feed about the same time everyday, unless I'm hunting that night and then they'll get fed when we get in from hunting.

same here. don't like hunting a dog on a full belly. To me makes them lazy like it does me on a full belly

I've always been told you shouldn't feed before a hunt.  Something about a dog getting a twisted gut from running on a full stomach.

I normally didn't feed before a hunt, but these past few weekends we've been hunting nights. So instead of feeding normal i feed them half before we hunt. It hasn't hurt yet, and they don't seem as run down after the hunt.

I feed after the hunt always. Otherwise it's when I get home from work in the evening. They are usually hungry right after the hunt but then Stiffen up. Especially after a rough one.

I feed in the evening also.  If im going hunting that evening i do not feed.  If i'm going even the next morning i don't feed the night before, when we get back they get fed if we caught hogs! Wink  Ive done it the same way for 15years.  I like them to be clean before a hunt.  They get use to putting bacon on the end so when we get back i actually feel there bowls before i unload them, so they know thats like there treat!  Works for me.  I found out on a hunt a year ago in the middle of a 5 day hunt my old dog Superman loves him some peanut butter crackers, and he showed us he loved them after cold tracking a hog at noon a little over 5oo yards and bayed solid!  (i didn't give him the crackers) Wink

I feed in the afternoon as well. If I'm gonna hunt that night I won't feed if I'm going early. If I'm going around midnight I feed. On a day hunt I feed when were done. I have taken dog energy bars on days I know we are gonna hunt daylight till dark. Give them bout mid day. Lots of calories for energy but not much in the stomach to slow em down.

I try not to feed any less than 12 hours before hunt. If I know I'm gonna hunt at night (on weekend) I usually do a half feed around noonish then a full feed the next morning.

I feed from 5-6pm everyday. If we get in a long hunt in the morning I.E. 10+ miles and we're getting on hogs the whole time otherwise known as a good hunt, I'll give them a 1/8 of a cup (big cup not cooking cup) when we get back but I'll knock the difference off at there 5-6pm feeding so they're getting the same amount. BUT, if my 6 year old hears me bragging about how good they did she'll wait for me to jump in the shower and she'll run out and give them the leftover bacon from the morning.  Evil They've taken a real liking to her now. Lol!

I feed every evening. If I am going hunting that night they still get some food a few hours before the hunt. Now if I am hunting in the morning they still det the regular serving the night before and if I am going again that evening I will feed a little more during the day. I know if I dont eat for 24 hours I'm not running anywhere.

I feed every evening I have never had a problem feeding before a hunt. I wouldn't want to be hungry the entire time I was hunting so I figure my dogs don't either

if i feed before a hunt its going to be 4 hours before..i usually only feed before during cold weather because it is very hard for them to go hypothermic with them eating before we head out. the 4 hours makes sure most is digested but also fills their Glucose storage so they will constantly stay  warmer and have energy.
