Have a Catahoula male showing some weird stools. Almost a mucus in his stool with possibly a little blood in it, loading him up to take him to the vet tomorrow. just thought id see if anyone has ever seen this? food has changed a little recently, but I feed diamond energy in the purple sack on a regular basis, and hes current on ivomec. Thanks in advance!

Worm Infestations
Most dogs will contract a case of worms at some point in their lives. Whipworms, tapeworms and hookworms can all cause bleeding or mucus in the stools.

I got some stuff from attwoods called triple wormer. It gets hook round and tape worms. Pin worms only thing I know is vet prescribed and can't remember the name.

I would agree on worms, but for young pups, watch for campylobacter(sp). Its a bacterial gut infection, seen from 4-6 weeks. At first u may think its coccidiea, but it dont give the pups the "power squirts", the pups dont lose their appetite, just stool get mucousy, loose, if on newspaper, you'll notice blood tinge around the edge of the pile. They may act like they dont have energy , but otherwise, thats all. U can treat with cephalaxin for 21 days. Most of time get from mom's feces.

Thanks for the help guys, amokabs he's got the exact symptoms your describing, but he's well out of puppy stage, iv got my dogs on concrete, so it is very noticeable as to what's going on. He has yet to have solid stool in a week or so. Iv wormed the fire out of him with a triple wormer I picked up at the vet supply, how long does an over thee counter take to knock out intestinal worms? And how often do you worm your dogs for intestinal? Iv allways give all my dogs ivomec once a month 1/10 cc per 10lbs. Hog dog or yard dog that's what they get. Never had worms come on me like this.

i worm mine every month with 3 cc of valbazan. 1/10th cc for every 10 pounds ivomec
If I see tapeworms I give them 3 cc valbazan 3 days in a row.
