Circle C hosted his annual hunt yesterday in Flatonia. Our group headed up to Cistern after breakfast to hunt Ben's ranch. Peaches and I turned a few dogs out and started a race in just a few minutes. They caught a small boar, then rolled out and caught a sow. The dogs killed a couple of other hogs that we never got to, so we loaded them and headed to the other side of the ranch. Hunted a while with no luck, so we decided to try the first spot again before heading in to lunch. Peaches Chrissy gyp opened up a few hundred yards out, bayed for a minute and then broke. Lady and Copper got with her, ran this boar several miles and got him bayed. On a sad note, Mandi, Aladatrot on here, lost her greyhound, Foxy, in a freak accident. She took the other group south of town to another ranch. Turned Foxy loose on a hog that ran by, she ran full speed into a mesquite tree, breaking her neck and killing her instantly. Mandi, I'm sure sorry for your loss... I know how much Foxy meant to you.

It's hard to beat a weekend of hog dogging, helicopter rides, chuckwagon cooking, and tractor pulls with some of our heroes. Here are a couple pics. Going to miss having Foxy around. She was a neat dog, and the only greyhound I have been around with a personality.

Thanks for the kind words about Foxy. She was a once in a lifetime dog, and I miss her terribly. I shouldn't have hunted her again because I knew I couldn't handle losing her. At least on the bright side, she went out with a hog in her sights, and stretched out at 50 mph - two things she loved the most. It was a fitting way for her to go, as she will never know what it's like to be washed up and feeble like some of my others. It's sad to see my Lizzie not having the lungs and legs she used to have. I can imagine getting old would have been worse for a Greyhound.
The wounded warrior hunt is always such a rush for me. I get to show a token of appreciation to the folks who have sacrificed their own bodies so that I can live in a country where I am free to hunt, ride, and enjoy my life. Without those dedicated soldiers, we could not enjoy what we have come to take for granted. We had a great group, caught some swine, and really enjoyed being in the woods. The best thing for me was not having to crawl into a rose hedge to catch a hog, and having the bays right out in the open so that our new friends could get the best experience without all the thorns. Thanks to all for their help in making the event another success, but most of all thanks to the men and women of our Armed Forces. Cheers M
