Dont really know how to put this, and kind of ashamed to, but truth is truth. I sent two young plott gyps down there to be started and hunted on hogs. These two gyps are bred very well and both parents top and bottom are good bear and hog dogs, tons of drive and game crazy. My delima is these two gyps have been put in pen and fooled with but not showing much interest. Which is puzzling to me because everything I have raised out of this line have been game crazy. They have been primarily bread for bear but have turned right on to hogs too. Im trying to decide wether to just cull them or give them more time. Normally I would have culled them without question but there barley a yr old and just not sure whats going on here. Their littermate is catching the Heck out of hogs by herself and gritty which is what I expect out of these dogs. They seem to just do it naturally. Which is why im a little confused. Cull or give them more time?

Yes, but just once. They showed little interest, they went with older dogs on a walking bear but could have been sniffing butts. I couldn't get close enough to see what they were doin. I did have a half brother that wouldn't fool with a hog at all but would pour it on a bear. And that thought did cross my mind. Thats one reason im a little hesitant about culling them.

I am sure you have raised enough dogs to know whether they will make the cut or not. I try to usually go with my instinct and what I have seen other dogs at the same age do.

Thats kind of my Delia too, I haven't seen them. They are just north of Waco and im in northeast TN. if I could see exactly what they are or are not doing I could make a better or easier judgment call. I might know a trick or two to get them to fire. Anyway, im either gonna have to drive down and get them or have him cull them. He said he wasn't fooling with them anymore. Not that I blame him.

How long have they been there? Maybe they just haven't adjusted to the new settings and are a little overwhelmed with everything.

yeah tom i've got all the doctoring done they gonna do , and fixing to fire my pack back up they have been laid up right along with me , so i will be working them from scratch basically . DO NOT CULL THE DOGS , if whomever is working them is tired of messing with them i'll take over and give you an honest evaluation in 6 more months . i give all my gyps to at least 18 months to either show or ''go '' . call me when you get the chance and we'll work something out . all i might ask in retirn is to maybe work a couple of my dogs on bear someday in reyurn . 469-658-2534 .

just want to make one thing clear on my end. I am in no way shape fashion or form, faulting or doubting this mans abilities. just want to give the gyps the benefit of the doubt.

i applaud the patience that some of you profess it is a virtue but not one of mine. Here, just a few times of direct exposure, at an appropriate age, will break one over and they will fire or be gone. Yes I may cull some great ones but don't want to wait until they are 16-18-24 mos old to start earning their way and don't want to breed that late bloomer business into my dogs.

And I have saw lots of crosses within a good line of dogs that just would not produce high percentages of good offspring.

If Trent would take one, I'd say let him try it. He's got a yard full of young prospects that have good blood and lots of potential. Maybe a good ol plott will keep him out ALL NIGHT LONG so I can sneak up to dangerfeild and snatch all those pups!!!

Most of them prospects better be out there 100 yards minimum in front of the plotts!!!! Cash is the only one not old enough to hunt, and he has that Clue Anderson blood in him so he probably won't turn on till 4... Just Kidding!!! I like the heck out of that little pup...
