American bulldog or pitbull

I have always used pits for a catchdog but i have the chance to buy a a nice american bulldog for good money. I know they are still part of the bulldog breed but was wondering if they make as good of catch dogs as pits. Have as good of a lock as much grit etc. Any input or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, the good ones are as good or better (in some regards) but with anything there are plenty of bad ones....do alot of research before you spend that money.

i got one for a watch dog couple years ago and he turned out being deaf and my wife refused to put him down .  smartest dog ive ever owned and great with kids , never tried to make him catch but he damn sure wants in the pen when the bay dogs are working !   good luck , i hear they make great catch dogs

An ab was coming up to my house when I'd feed my dogs and he kept  getting thinner so I caught him last night and im going to see what he has today. I've always used pits but he is smart and really athletic.

We use both. The good thing about my Am Bull is that he has more over all size on bigger hogs. He is a standard type, so he's leaner with good muzzle and ALOT of leg, so he has pretty good stamina and endurance. Covers alot of ground.

i have both. i prefer pits. my Ab and those ive hunted with are good catch dogs but seem to be a little slow mouthed. when i use mine with a pit to make first contact we catch hogs. and he is one heck of a good anchor.

i guess i like the both of them , mine are about a 50/50 cross of the two  . the best of both worlds  lol .

I like em both but I use pits, started with a pitt and i'll probly quit with one.

Owned both, liked both. Have seen some hellacious CD's of each breed.

Seen a 90 lb AB knock over a 200lb hog when he hit him....locked on and that was that. AB's definitely give you an anchor advantage, just because of weight...but with weight comes size.

A 50 lb APBT will get theu places a 80-100lb AB won't.

Thanks guys for the input. I think im gonna try it and see how it goes. If nothin else it will give me somethin to piddle with. Gettin for lil of nothin so wont be losing much. He is 11 months old suppose to have been huntin couple times. Is there anything different about starting them than a pit?

at 11 months id let him mature out a while before taking him. other wise no. just take him hunting.

What part of Arkansas?  Yah he looks pretty stout.  How do u plan on hunting him? Like rcd or something like that?

I love my abd, still young 7 months buts he a fire ball near the bay. Been totin him out and teachin him Ridin skills and showin him other dogs bayin he's choppin at the bit but waitin on them teeth to set in. His has an awesome temperament too.
