 Just a little rant...

We have always taken pride in the fact that we keep good relations with our land owners and the surrounding land owners. Its a  very important part of this sport.

That is why we did not hestitate to go and introduce ourselves to a new land owner on a piece of land that butts up to our hunting spot. We had a good visit with him for about an hour just letting him know who we are and what we do. During the conversation we told him that we would not be hunting the side of the land that bordered his during deer season because we knew that him and his sons were deer hunting the place and we didnt want to disturb them. We also mentioned that after deer season when it warmed up a bit that we would return to the area to hunt and asked if it would be ok for us to get our dogs off of his property if they got on there. He said that he didn't see a problem with that. We gave him our card and told him to call us any time. We all shook hands and parted in good spirits. We even had Justin Corbell with us that evening. We talked about how nice the new land owner was and how glad we were to have permission to retrieve our dogs off of his place.

That was back in December. Well now that deer season is over we decided to make a hunt over on that side of the land because the hogs were tearing up all of the roads because they haven't had any pressure put on them by us since before deer season.

The dogs headed straight to the neighbors land so we went over to see if we could find the land owner. He wasnt there but a guy who was doing some tractor work for him was there. We told him who we were and that we were hunting in the area and that we had been given permission to get our dogs. He said that he wish he was hunting with us instead of working and wished us luck. Lol

So we got our dogs and a boar that they had down and left. We went to another spot and continued hunting. Caught another one that day.

Didnt give it another thought.

Then we loaded up and went out to the same place a few days ago. We hunted for a while, got on a runner and caught all of the dogs except one. He showed to be on the edge of the new land owners property. So we thought that before we went to get him that we would go to the front and say howdy to the guy and chat for a while.

Well we didn't see anyone there and so James decided to call the land owner just to let him know that we had a dog on his place and that we wanted to get him. He reached the guys receptionist and gave her a message to give the guy. In the mean time, a guy who works for this man drives up and meets us at the entrance to the place.

This guy starts coming at us with all sorts of accusations, implies that we are lying when we deny the accusations, and then threatens to shoot our dogs for treaspassing.   Huh?

We were deffinately caught off guard. Standing there all dumbfounded. After I saw that there was no talkin to this guy, I told him that it would be a HUGE mistake to shoot ANY of our dogs as I gave him the crazy eye. I think I said it a few times. James got real quiet, which is a scary thing. When he quits talking, its usually not good. God help this moron if he shoots any of our dogs.  Angry

After listening to him rant for a little while we came to the conclusion that they are having a problem with lots of treaspassers. The owner has decided that no one has permission to go on his property. Which is totally fine. Its his land and he can do what ever he wants but damnit, it would have only taken a simple phone call. Thats why we give our card out.

Im pretty upset about it but what can you do except move on and stay the hell away from his place. I really hate that it ended like this. But we do plan on going back to talk directly with the land owner, not his employee. To straighten out any misunderstandings. I rather that we didn't have any hard feelings on either side. We have worked to hard to have a good reputation to have it tarnished because of he said, she said.

Mrs. Dinah, something just ain't adding up! I have been talkin to your husband the last couple hours and it sure seems to me some jackass has been out there and is obviously screwing up a good thing. I figured ya'll would have it made after talkin to him, seemed like a really nice stand up guy. I'd love to meet the guy dumb enough to say he would shoot your dogs in front of you and Mr. James, sounds like he was beggin for a grown man sized arse whoopin! Hope ya'll get this all cleared up and he see's that ya'll are out there to help not hurt.

If his land borders your it also borders mine. I really dont think he wants to be that stupid and shoot no ones dog. As for the tresspassing part all he has to do is go to the golf course area just south of him because I hear that is where alot of my tresspassers come from. I caught 4 people in my lease last weekend.

yes the state of affairs in our dog community has become so bad that i have quit telling people that i hog hunt with dogs . i fixed more fences and picked up more truck loads of trash on my old spots in ellis county than i care to remember . after i left no one was there to do it so the land owner shut down all access even to the ones that had permission . when you are so lazy you cut a mans fence to get your 4 wheeler on a piece of property you have no buissness hunting at all  . sorry for your troubles but it is only going to get worse as time goes by .

Yeah, treaspassers have always been an issue out there. This new land owner is just beginning to get a taste of it. It just makes me sick. The guy who was bumping his gums about shooting our dogs is just an employee throwing out threats as a way of trying to bully us. Lol, He isn't  very smart either because he tried to tell me that he was within his legal rights to shoot a dog for treaspassing. Dumbazz

Yes Sir, his place does but right up to yalls. Lol, welcome to the party.

We tried to warn him about all of the people we catch out there. He put locks on the gates and a whole bunch of game cameras up to stop them. Im sorry but that doesn't work. You just about have to catch them and then call a game warden.

I hope that ol boy threating to shoot dogs doesn't bump into Kelvin.

Thats all i ever hear from people who dont want anybody hunting hogs on them. It's always people cutting fences. maybe it's just the farm boy in me but I can't even imagine that being an option.  sorry about the trouble keep working on him with kindness talk with him about something other than hog hunting. I have been doing cold call sales for a long time and i know it works. talk about them.

I would talk to the owner again. The jackass that works for him is the one that dont want you there. If yall get rid of the hogs it makes him look bad. Tell the owner how he talked to you also.

I have gained access to a few places I couldn't hunt from the surrounding land owners putting pressure on them to try & move the hogs off their property.   There is nothing better than his neighbors speaking highly of you, & keep peace to all.

Well girl, I feel your pain. I don't know if you remember my post a while back about the next door property to the one we hunt for the Childrens' Home, but almost this same thing happened to us. We just stopped running it so that I don't have to put my boot up someones' arse!!!! I have a feeling that when the old man that owns the place dies and his sons take over we won't have a problem with that area any more. Trying to help the home, and the arse next door screws it up for everyone! Lord help the man that decides to shoot someones' dogs, cause he is gona need it.

Dinah I think that you and James are doing exactly what you should do,.....I would do just that myself....I too hate loose ends. I find it hard to understand why landowners can't see that when people of their choosing are hunting their property....it keeps the trespassers away,....at least for a time. This goomer that tried to run y'all off is most likely full of himself and wants to bully someone. Good luck with the landowner, maybe he'll have sense enough to realize y'all can actually help him out.

Jason, the poachin/trespassin problem out there is about the worst ive ever seen. there was a stretch over the summer where we caught or saw and chased people just about every hunt for an easy month. That land is loaded with hogs and its really sad that yall and the Psenciks have to deal with that nonsense constantly.......it is a perfect place for game wardens to set up shop but I've never seen a one while hunting with the Psenciks.
