Or, as some call it....RETIRED!!!!!!!! Yep,.....after 25 years and 8 months my career as a firefighter is over. I could not be happier.....I may have to go get a box of Depends so I won't pee on myself I'm so happy! I've had a great time and seen just about all there is to see I reckon.....now it's time to lay down my turnout and start a new chapter in life. I'm going to enjoy this like no man ever has,....I worked 2 jobs for about 30 years and now I'm going to enjoy not working for anyone else at all.

I've enjoyed my job as a firefighter,....it's an extremely rewarding job at times and a thankless task at other times. I've helped some folks that were in dire need of it at the time and for that I'm very thankful that I could do. It's not for everyone as any firefighter will tell you, we are a brotherhood just as the law enforcement folks are. Folks think we are crazy and that could be right....but we just see it as doing our job.

I plan to do some traveling and hope to meet and hunt with some of you fine folks. I've made some good friends on here and a guy can never have too many friends you know! Life is too short to spend it all working at a job,....I was recently asked what my plans were after I retired,......my answer was....." I plan to do more of what I enjoy.....and less of what I don't". Today I am a HAPPY man.......! laugh laugh laugh laugh

Well it's my first day of 'unemployment'......and I like it so far!!! HA It is a bit strange to finally be at a place you've thought about for over 25 years,.....but I can handle change pretty well, so you can be certain that I will NOT be one of those poor folks that retired and goes back to work in 6 months because they don't know what to do with themselves. I feel a bit of pity for those people.....it must be miserable to not have anything that you love to do outside of work.

The Good Lord has blessed me beyond anything that I deserve for sure,....I have all I need to be happy and enjoy my new life. I have friends that are the best a man could ever want, I'm a most wealthy man in that respect. I'm going to enjoy this new freedom to the fullest.

I had one of the best days that I've had in a looooong time yesterday...I was able to help my best friend get a newer truck. He works like a trojan and spends little money on himself. He's been driving an old Nissan that he paid $2000 for 5 or 6 years ago. It wasn't much of a truck at all. He ran in a ditch the other day trying to get something out of the back seat and pretty much killed the old truck. I found one down here that he might want....we were headed to south AL on a hog hunt going to leave about dinner (that's noon or lunch for some folks).....lol I went to TN to pick him and his dogs up Wed. night and we came back to my place. Since they called off the hunt we went truck shopping....looked at a 2000 Z-71, had 184,000 on it, I was hoping we coud do better and by chance we pulled in to the lot where I bought my truck a few years ago. There sits an '06 Z-71.....I was hoping that the price was within his range....after talking with the credit union we drove the truck, only had 72,000 on it. He was sold and bought it.....I was so happy for him, this is by far the nicest truck he has ever had.....and there's no man that deserves it more. I'm still grinning this morning thinking about how happy he was. It's been many years since he had a vehicle that he could make a long trip in. I had a good day yesterday for sure.

Thank each of you for your well wishes, I've read every one and they will not be forgotten. I'm blessed in that I can still do just about anything I want, I just pay a bit more for it now.....HAHA. I've enjoyed my life as a Firefighter and I'll always be one, working or not. Now I can get out and enjoy this new freedom and hopefully meet and hunt with some of y'all. Thank you again.....it was pleasure to serve.
