IMO, start em when you ween em. Get a piglet same size as them and start gettin em familar.
But, We use to, and still do some get some dumpster/road dogs, throw em in bay pen, they either got it or they dont. Aint out nothing.

One of the best strike dogs that we ever owned was started at two and a half years. He took right to it after we showed him a hog in a pen. Found his own hog the first time we took him to the woods.

i have started some catahoulas that i rescued when they were 2 and 3 years old . people think they would be purty pets and found out cats are a [ special dog ] lol but you can start a dog at about any age if it's bred in them they will go .

i got a big cat dog at 2yrs old and he wouldnt bay in a pen so i thought he wouldnt work, took him to the woods just to get him off the chain and damed if he didnt go 200yrds and bay up his own hog hes my lead strike dog now and still wont bay much in the pen

I'v had several dogs that didn't like the bay pen, put them in the woods , game on!!
