A few months ago I let a buddy barrow jersey. Said he needed a good dog to get a cpl young dogs rolling. In exchange for her to help him out, he brought me some kennel panels down. Here is the story. I didn't here from the fella in about 4 months couldn't get a hunt togeather with him or another guy we both know. Finally guy calls me up looking for a well started dog. I asked him 3 times about jersey before he finally tells me he lost her 3 weeks ago hunting. Said she took off and never came back. Said his catahoula he just bought took off with her. My problem is she was missing for 3 weeks and sob never told me crap about it. She was lost in quinlan tx. Black brindle plott female answers to jersey. Has a notch in her right upper lip from a boar hog. White chest and toes. I really want her back any help would be appreciated. What do y'all think about this? What actions would y'all take. 3 weeks and telling me rubs me wrong!

dang that sucks chris i know what i would do , prison ain't as bad as folks think  . but seriously he'd have to pay me for the dog . in my opinion if you had known you could have taken time to go look for the dog , and maybe recovered it  .

I think he shulda called ya as soon as he culdnt find her, like from the woods !
depends on what kinda friend and guy he is. if i lost someones dog i'd be offerin them top dollar for it, they wuldnt even have to Ask me for it ! Id be writin a check that made him happy to have loaned me the dog. because he hasnt done this and didnt call immediately I'd guess he aint worth a chit ! if he doesnt have money you can get through legal action( ya cant get money from a potatoe) then beat what ya can outta him !

Sounds like dog died at his house or he sold the dog. I would not believe anything that came out of his mouth. Another reason to not loan out dogs.

Stand up guyy would've mtold you as soon as dog was lost, then if not found,  done anything to make it right. Pay double, whatever,, , Personally, i would never ask to borrow someone's strike dog because i would not want the responsability that goes along with it. I would ask if i could hunt my raw pups with your strike dog when YOU went hunting. To me, anyone asking to borrow stuff, cant afford what they are borrowing ,, or they would have it and not need to borrow it. And rarely do borrowers think as highly of, or care for, the things they borrow as well as the owner. I only say these things cuz i have learned them the hard way.

He should've told u as soon as he couldn't find her. Not even the next day, I mean at the end of that hunt. Then both of y'all could've looked for the dog. Kinda fishy, like was said either she was killed/died/sold. He would pay every penny!!

Sounds like she was sold in my opinion....anyone that I (or you, i would imagine)would have enough trust in to hunt my dog for any period of time is considered smart/responsible enough to know that a lost dog phone call is something that is done immediately 24/7 day or night.......smells REAL fishy to me.

Man, I hate to be rude and I'm telling you this in 100% kindheartedness toward you. But there is only one person that you can blame for the situation your in. And you know who I'm talking about. Youd have better luck calling me and askin to borrow my ol lady for the weekend than one of my dogs that I'm gonna even blink an eye in disapointment if I didn't get it back. I d have one person that can come get a dog from my house any time he wnts and I can do the same. But he is also my best friend and I taught him not everything he knows about this stuff. But everything he uses when he hunts. This past year he had a few of my dogs with him when a lil male dog who I liked the most out of a litter I had that every dog in it was is a bad mofo, well we don't know what happened exactly but he's not in one of my kennels. But I can tell you that I have no doubt that he didn't pull any wishy washy bs and he gave all effort he possibly could to recover the dog.  You'll learn the hard lesson of live that outside of family, you won't come across a whole that of poeple who are not out to get you. Go slap his head around a little cause he probably deserves it. But brother, don't forget who deserves the blame.

if the dog was on loan and not given away then i believe it was his responsability to inform you the moment the dog was lost. I have personaly seen and heard of dogs being loaned out and then reported lost or killed so they can either hunt them or sell them. A real buddy would report the loss right away in my opinion.

Just think about all the time and effort you put into your dog so she could be wat you wanted her to be. I think he sold her. I hope who ever maybe bought her, gives her back to you.

Jpigg the only blame I'm gonna take is being a good ole boy. I was given the same chance. I hunted with guy for 2 years before this off and on. I guess its the price ill have to pay for being a decent guy. I just want the dog back in any condition I can get her. Atleast ill have that peace of mind. If anybody has the chance and can do so please look back through my ole posts and put her pic up for many thanks.

Yeah bubba. The reason I made sure to let you know that I was commenting to you in only kindheatedness is because US good ole boys get our hearts broken a whole lot though life for being good ole boys. I've been in your shoes time and time again on things I've tried to be good to poeple on. I agree with halfbreed 100 percent and love ny dogs enough to where their are only a few poeple in this old world that would come before them. And from what I get from this post you seem similar. It up to us to make sure we don't hurt these poeple by doing something that will put us in jail for handling a peice of'shi* like that ol boy the only way us country folks do. Which involves some poteintally serious physical injury. Poeple nowadays don't just take'the a**  whoopin they more than deserve and go about their bussiness. They press charges and the laws of this great country just ain't gonna see the fact that this ol boy deserved his beating  for the crime he commeted. They will see you in the wrong no doubt. I know I used to overlook lil things in poeple like when we walked in a store and they would steal something small like the carmex. I looked at it like , Hell, just carmex what $1.29 or if they were trying to screw someone on something over the fun. Never fails, EVERYTIME when that person got off and convinced me he wouldn't ever do me that way cause were like brothers, everyonen  of them ended upscrewin me insome way or another. And someone that will steal  anything even if it seems small will steal from you. You just have to notice the smallest clues ad look for them all the time. Wish u best ofluck on your dog.

I really think if she was lost he should have called and if she died he should have brought her to you. But she is probably sold. I can say that you thought you were doing him a favor and not to say that I wouldn't do the same I have a dog right not that needs hunt more than I can hunt him so some times you loan them out its a hard lesson. I hope you find her maybe the guy he sold her to will hear about this and be a better man than him.

big chris , Im sorry for what has happened to you but what comes around goes around , when I first started hunting a friend of mine loaned me one of his bay dogs several times , I was always on pins and needles when I  done this , she ran her pads off a time or two during our hunt and I felt like crap when I unloaded her and she couldnt hardly walk, I would take her back home after the hunt , I purchased this dog a couple of years later , Ive offered to let a man use my catch dog because of this , I seem to think this mans not telling you everything , if Id lost craigs dog I wouldnt of left the woods and a phone call to craig would have been a must , I wish you the best on finding or being paid for your dog , if he was a stand up guy he would of already made you a offer on the dog , I believe a long talk face to face is in order , look him in the eyes make up your mind if hes telling the truth , and then if needed stomp the living xxxx out of him

Hey bud, I've had similar situations with a dog here recently, but mine wasn't lost. It was killed from neglect, and I didn't even get a call. You start realizing who you can trust, and unfortunately have to find out the hard way. I'm sorry for your loss buddy, and I'll keep an eye out for here in my neck of the woods. Where abouts over there? I haven't hunted in that area in a while, but can ask around and see if anyone has heard anything. Hit me up and shoot me a pic of her.
