I freeze branded all my dogs last July, had two 3 month old pups we did then to, a black male and a red gyp. I normally let my pups run loose at my place until they start chasing the deer off too far, well a week or two later the black male pup came up missing. I wrote it off to Parvo/ Corona or an older dog killing him. This is normal around my place so I didn't think anything of it, only the strongest survive.

I put pictures of a couple of my dogs freeze brands on Facebook a few weeks ago to show someone else that had a dog missing what the brands looked like. So last week,  a friend of mine that saw those pics on Facebook, calls me and said there is a black dog with my brand on it out where they are working, and they are 20+ miles from where I live!  I asked him to catch it and I went and picked it up after work. He had a different collar on with no name plate and was in good shape, so someone had been feeding him well.

Trying to be a detective, I went to all the houses around asking if it was there dog, and of course no one had ever seen him!

It does not cost much to have a brand built, or have someone actual brand the dogs, compared to the cost of losing your dog!

I am trying to think positive that the pup wondered off and someone picked him up, rather than someone stealing him, but who knows! I really want to know who fed my pup for six months so I can thank them!

Good advice.  Need to get one one my pup. Glad you got your pup back and like you said hopefully it wasn't stolen.

I'm going to brand mine as soon as I get a brand built.

Here's another tip, if you don't have a brand built or waiting for one to get built, use hairdye  Grin it don't turn out to bad.  I hair dyed mine after I had a buddy get a dog picked up and collars threw out. Hopefully it will make em think twice.

Ben, what color for black dogs and was it a gel or what? How did you go about it?

For black dogs, I used some extreme red dye but any extreme color will work, because it the hair has to be bleached before it can be hold that bright crazy pink or blue.  So I used the bleaching agents in it, but blonde would work to.

Some is foam and I branded a light red dog with dark brown.  The better the product the less time it has to sit.

I took some lead ropes and chained there heads real high and put a half hitch on their back end and spread em out where they couldn't move much and just watched it.  If your brand ain't complicated it ain't hard to do, the heart was pretty hard to shape.

Has any one seen a long haired dog freeze branded. I know you shave the dog when you freeze brand but what does it look like when the long hair grows back? Does it look like a blob? Or look good?

G'day fella's, I apologies if my question has been asked & answered else where. Is it affective to freeze brand white dogs, I mean does it stand out like it does on dark coloured dogs.

Cheers

Got some info on stuff u need for freeze brands if anyone wants to do it. https://www.lhbrandingirons.com/cgi-bin/shopper.exe?search=action&category=C000&keywords=all

I was thinking of buying every letter and nums 0-9 and starting to do brands on the weekends for extra money but I would ha e to start small first. The bronze brands are NOT. Cheap!

I tried it on my solid snow white American bulldog. You have to hold the brand on longer which kills the hair follicles. So the hair doesn't grow back at all. Ill see if I can find a pic of her. Maybe someone on here has a pic of their BMC, I know some of them use this method on those as well.

I had a bad experience freeze branding some dogs. So I refuse to do it anymore. I like the hair dye thing. I had the skin rip open on some dogs. It also cut the outside of the muscle.

I had a man do it for me. That's what he does. So I thought he knew what he was doing. The brands froze to the skin.

I tattoo all my dogs. It's simple and easy to do. I have never had any issues with it either. My kids raise show rabbits so I have literally done hundreds of animals.
