I had a bad experience freeze branding some dogs. So I refuse to do it anymore. I like the hair dye thing. I had the skin rip open on some dogs. It also cut the outside of the muscle.
Dang did you leave on there too long or something? I had a man do it for me. That's what he does. So I thought he knew what he was doing. The brands froze to the skin. Oh dang, yea I know I d like to do something to mark my dogs I even thought of doing something in the ear. Tattoo or something but after that story not sure Brandin is the answer lol I tattoo all my dogs. It's simple and easy to do. I have never had any issues with it either. My kids raise show rabbits so I have literally done hundreds of animals. Where ya located? Might meet up and get ya to do mine if you had time

These are Van Dorns dogs. I think the brand was held on 8 or 9 seconds! A horse brander came and helped do it

No sir, I held down there head and a front leg and friend held down there rear legs. We held the brass brand on them for 8 seconds after we clipped the hair off and sprayed the skin with rubbing alcohol. Most didn't squirm until about 7 seconds.

Here's another tip, if you don't have a brand built or waiting for one to get built, use hairdye it don't turn out to bad. I hair dyed mine after I had a buddy get a dog picked up and collars threw out. Hopefully it will make em think twice. how long does that last? Think this is what im going to do... what would u suggest for the dye color to be on a brindle dog? sorry about all the ?s just never seen or thought about doing that

It lasts a few months if you leave it on there long. Honestly it's aggravating, I'd just as soon freeze brand mine and call it a day once I get a brand built.

I don't really know why either. I paid a farrier to do it. That's what he does so I figured he knew what he was doing. I know it put my best young dog out of commission for about 6 weeks and the F grew back into a K

G'day fella's, I apologies if my question has been asked & answered else where. Is it affective to freeze brand white dogs, I mean does it stand out like it does on dark coloured dogs.
Cheers
I tried it on my solid snow white American bulldog. You have to hold the brand on longer which kills the hair follicles. So the hair doesn't grow back at all. Ill see if I can find a pic of her. Maybe someone on here has a pic of their BMC, I know some of them use this method on those as well. Thanks for your response mate. I look forward to seeing your pics. Cheers

If the dog is worth stealing, an ear can be cut off. They are hog dogs afterall, and "accidents happen" hair dye will last till it don't no more, but branding goes down to the roots and the skin cells. One of these days I'm gonna pay for a brand to get made and take the ones worth stealing to someone who knows what their doin. (if I ever get one worth stealing that is )
