If we lived anywhere near ya we have a pack of Patterdales and a couple Bull Terriers that would love nothing more than to eradicate that problem for ya!

The coons & squirrels are so bad where I trap that I have resorted to checking them traps in the late afternoon.  Otherwise, they eat all of the corn before the hogs come in after dark.

I trap in ACE property and my permit does not allow me to kill the coons or squirrels.  I have tried diesel many times.  It hasn't slowed them down yet.  Arrrrrrrrgh.

I did find those finger traps above very interesting.  Thanks.

I choose to think of the darn coons as scent cover.

are you useing a trip wire to spring the trap ?  if you are we had the same problem we just raised the trip wire higher to avoid the coons bumping it and springing the trap  . the hogs would still be able to bump the wire when they got to the corn  .

The diesal attracts hogs..we soak all our corn in diesal and the coons won't touch it we had the same problem....and it does not hurt the pigs at all and the cons won't even come near it..lol   yes Kevin you are correct

I've tried diesel and never saw it stop the coons from eating corn.

Dry corn, donuts, or fish back bones are the most simple baits for hogs that I've found.  A coon eats every one of those baits also.  Coon scent in your hog trap is a good thing as far as see.

Change your trigger, or move the trap.  No need to waste time worrying about coons to catch hogs.  You will only lay down more human scent, and spend time and money.

I use diesel from the Shell station.  Not sure the color of it.  Red is probably commercial or farming and I think it is colored to indicate "non tax" or something of that nature.

Does anyone know if those cool traps will work on squirrels.  There are way too many tree rats around my neighborhood.
