|
I need a little advise guys, Iv got a bmc thats beating her tail on her pen, box etc to the point she stays pretty bloody... she just started this, iv tried to wrap it and she peels it off. Tails are a bugger to keep a tight wrap any how. Anybody have any other remedys?? Or know where I can get a banding gun to dock her tail a few inches shorter? Would this be the best thing to do? any knowledgeable input is appreciated!

My dog used to do that all the time but eventually her tip if tail got tuff and stopped doing it but heard docking works good to.

They make blood stop powder that will clot it. Or smear heavy grease or vasilene on the tail. Don't know the dimensions or your capabilities ...but sounds like she needs a bigger pen if it continually has contact with a wall or wire. Also try taking her out and putting her on a chain until the tail completely heals. No docking of a ybmc. Its illegal in British Columbia and a morale sin around East Texas.  Hope it helps bud. |

Ha. We call this "happy tail" in the bulldog world. Once they bust it open, it's going to be a chronic issue. You can always TRY to wrap the end of her tail up in vet wrap before you load her up if she'll leave it alone. At home, you could put her on a cable runner or chain to have her out in the open with nothing to hit her tail on. We had a few clients over the years that actually paid to have their dogs' tails docked to remedy the issue.

myles, i got a dog that on a chain or in a kennel he will find a way to whip his tail somewhere and it will bleed, been doin it since mid of 2011 when got him and the pic i got of him b4 buying him, he had a blood smear line on his body. i been thinkn of carterising it, but it eventually heal up and then he will find a way to make it bleed again. any suggestions? oh nxt time im over ur way and i hav him, i'll swing by and u can help me bob him since docking is a moral sin back hm.  |

Sure wish there was a way around it, but looks like im gonna be a sinner  lol Iv got to do something, I know its tender to her. She has a bloody line down each side of her body. Thanks for everybodys input! |

Haha Charles ....you sinner! Another possible fix before cutting rudders off ships is to remedy the happy in "Happy Tail" Plain and simple.....you gotta make life more depressing for him. Tie a cat just out of reach of the dog and give the cat a T-bone Steak. Wire a siren next to the dog house and have it go off every 20 minutes for a week straight. Take a cheese grader and run the dog rear end raw...then pour rubbing alcohol on it. Tie raindeer antlers to his head and then photograph him. Build him a dog house without a door. Ya know what im saying.....bring him down mentally my man.......mentally .......to much happiness. Just a quick random thought. Hehe. |

Man I was gonna post the same question. I got a young bmc that I noticed he had blood along his sides and kept thinkin he scratched himself on his barrel. There is blood scattered all over his kennel floor, water bowl, everywhere. Couldnt figure it out, I was watching him today and he wags the crap out of his tail and I noticed it slapping the kennel sides. I looked at his tail and its cut at the tip. I was thinking of taking him to get it docked but he is 11 months old, would it be to late?

G'day Ekunkel, I've had this problem many times & i have always fixed it with using a product called Potassium Permanganate, they are crystals. It is also called Condi's crystals. Directions: dissolve 2.5g in 100ml of water to form a strong solution. Soak tip of tail in solution for a couple of minutes a day for a few days & i'm sure it will heal. They seem to heal real quick. The skin on the tip of the tail will toughen & you will no longer have a problem. I all so use it on dogs feet when they blow or lose a pad. I use same formula, it will heal & toughen up their pads. We get this product from a chemist or drug store. Hope this helps. Cheers |

Its all good Charles, once you soak tail you could even pinch one of the wifes hair curlers & tape it to the tip of the dogs tail with duct tape, just for a bit of extra protection. Oh yer & just a warning make sure the solution dry's before letting dog lose other wise you will have purple stripes on everthing Let us know how you go mate. Cheers |

One of my females does the same thing. The other female got the tip of her tail cut off by accident when she was a pup. I would have docked them if I had it to do again. It's a mystery to me as to why some dogs hit things and bleed all over and others don't, even in the same size pens.
I put them on a chain when I can, and it clears right up. Most vets I've talked to, won't dock an adult dogs tail unless it's real bad.
