Went out to a couple places in Navarro County today. Brett brought his Gus and Sadie dogs and his CD Willy. I brought my CD Zeus, Jasper and a young red pup J.P. Jasper got his pad cut bad a couple weeks ago but it looks good now, I checked it periodically...he was good for both hunts.
We got a late start...bout 10 or so....it was really dry and hard hunting. First hunt was a bust....dogs never even acted interested really....loaded them up after about 45 minutes and off to second spot.
At the second spot they hunted...just like the first but just didn't seem real enthused about the area. We moved to a couple other spots and sent them out and right about the time we were getting ready to call it off Gus struck.
All the other dogs were working another area but they went to him. He was in a dry creek bed baying good. Bout the time the other dogs got within about 50 yards of him the bay broke but only for a few seconds then he started back up again. Garmin showed he had moved about 30 yards further down the creek.
Now...I'm just speculating here...but...when the other dogs hit the creek...just to the east of Gus.....Jasper and J.P. caught and the bay broke again. By the squeal...it was a small pig. We tied up the CD's and went in. It was nasty thick briars but we only had to cover about 35-40 yards to the creek bed.
We got there and J.P. and Jasper had a little gimpy 10lb boar shoat caught, Sadie was barking in his ear for good measure and Gus wasn't there but showed up shortly after.

Best I can figure..it was a sow with a few pigs...Gus struck and the the bay moved a bit.....the bay ended up a little west of where the dogs hit the creek but that gimpy little shoat stayed put and the dogs hit the creek bed right on too of him.

Anyway...Gus came back to the ruckus we were making getting the little pig away from the dogs (Before we figured out it was gimpy...Brett wanted to keep the pig for some pup training). We called it off after that and went to the house. I guess a gimpy little pig is better than nothing at all.
