My 11 month mastiff was rattle snake bit about 6 days ago. Didn't know it was a rattler till day 4. Any remedies? Been to the vet and his muscle and skin on the high inside of his front leg has died from the venom. Trying to keep the leg and Just trying to keep him from getting septic and dying of infection. Any help is appreciated.

I dont know what to tell you that far along . But as soon as the dog gets bit you need to fill him full of antibotics and also give 3 cc of Dext. The Dext will keep the fluid off his lungs and keep him out of shock . I would give it to him several days in a row along with the antibotics injections. Just got to keep them full of it for a few days to a week are so . Lots of people say give them benydril but that only works right at frist if you have noting else when I say at first I mean the first few hours then it dont matter how much you give them not gonna help much at all . I had a dog get bit three times chest, underneath and in the side . I did just what I just said and saved her . Called the vet and he said that would have been all he could have done also .

I treat every bite like a rattlesnake bite. If you did not see the snake consider it a rattlesnake. This late in the game not much but keep the food and water so the dog can eat and drink their fill and just wait.

Keep giving him Benadryl so he doesn't get to swelled up and can't breathe. Give him a dose every day

He seems to be doing good, hobbling around after the other dogs, attitude seems good. Put some weight on it today a little bit. Swelling is almost all the way down. All the tissue and skin where the bite was has rotted off but now he is down to the healthy tissue so it seems like if we can keep infection away then I think he should do alright. Left it unwrapped tonight. Giving him amoxicillin and seems to be doing good.
