Haven't done any hunting for the last week or two, but this morning I finally got out to the new ranch I've been looking forward to hunting... Nobody showed up this morning, so me and Mack just eased on in the place for a nice, quiet hunt  I had Ellie and Shiner on deck as we eased along to the back of the property where there's a bad swamp that I've run a particular red boar to a half dozen times and always lost him... Well, we drove as far as we could and I let Ell and Shine off to do their morning business before we started, but they took out like a shot and were bayed within a couple minutes. By the tell-tale "oh crap" bark  I figured it was a goodin', but I waited on old Mack to come in with me. Mack doesn't usually haul in to a bay, but because this one was a few hundred yds off, he wanted to try and get in and see the bay. As we eased in, we saw they were up against a blow down, and giving the hog LOTS of room... uncharacteristic for these two... I started to pull the video camera out, but saw the ivory hanging out and decided not to push it... goosed him out of his hole, sent A.J. in, her and Shiner caught, and I got the hog handled. A.J. got a couple pokes, Shine got a good rake to the chest, but it sure could've been worse. Property owner insists I kill everything, so brought him home for the dogs. Great hunt with better company, just a good morning  He was an old boar, front teeth worn flat. Weighed a little over 200.  Ellie and Shiner, Sensei and Grasshoppah  One thing I really like about these white dogs... you know real quick when somebody's been hit  The blow down he was wedged up to, waited for him to move off before I cut A.J. to him.  |

Yep, I've said it before, but old Mack's forgot more about catchin' hogs than everything I know about it put together Sure do enjoy hunting with old timers, has really taught me a lot |

Well you were looking for one with teeth, looks like you found him!! I would have loved to have been there....if it was about 30 degrees cooler...... Good hog, glad no dogs got wrecked. Was 102 degrees here yesterday at 4:30 PM.......I just don't remember it getting this hot last summer. |
