It was great for me and my fiancé! It was cool and humor so there was no dirt flying around. Seen some awesome dog work in the arena as well as great handling! I had a blast, Ill prolly be going for the whole event next year with a couple dogs just for fun.

Got there late...caught part of youth bay and the high point competition. It was nice to be in that atmosphere again. Honestly I was a little disappointed in the high point competition. Scoring seems to be near the same as it use to be...I was able to score within 1/4 point of the judges on almost every run. The thing that puzzled me was the way they scored the drifting hogs....some covered a good expanse of the arena...dog baying the entire time of course...but I didn't notice much of a score difference between dogs that layed teeth and dogs that didn't. Thats kinda where my scoring conflictes with the judges. They were some DECENT hogs....only 1 got caught.

Kevin, exactly what is the conflict your talking about?

I am for sure no expert in the baying's but I would like to see the handler push the hog once just to see if the dog can stop the hog and bring it to bay...

Reuben...most every hog in the high point didn't HAVE to be pushed. They were decent hogs......they moved on their own, lol......made the dogs work. My "conflict" was on a few runs I was off on "MY" scoring...and they were runs that hogs really moved on....a couple were scored higher than I thought they should have been and 1 lower.

The caliber of the high point that you were disappointed in could have been from the dogs being worn out after a week of baying! I know the handlers were worn out.

I just know that all 10 dogs in the high point worked their tails off to be in the position to bay off for the high point. Out of all the dogs ran only 10 qualified!

And to top it off, my wife was one of the 10 to bay off for the high point, and for you to say you were disappointed in the caliber of the dogs in the high point pisses me off cause my wife and I and our dogs have worked hard to get to that position!

Hold your horses! Lol.....I didn't say I was disappointed in the caliber of dogs! I KNOW what it takes to get there Spencer. If your wife had a dog in the event then she did well.

That being said....I don't believe for a minute 3 runs (old and young, one dog and two dog) in a two to three day period is enough to wear a dog out. The issue of the hogs drifting had more to do with the hogs being rank than anything else.

It sounds so easy when you say that one old/young run, one 1 dog run, and one 2-dog run isnt much toll on a dog in a three day period. Most good dogs were ran more than once in the old/young class and in the two dog classes. What about all the bayoffs? Plus were you there to witness the weather? My wifes dog almost had a heat stroke after his two dog run cause it was so hot. Also, you take a dog away from his home, put him around thousands of people that they dont know, and he barks constantly at all week long, and doesnt sleep well from not being at home, does take a toll on the animal. They are just like us humans. I know for a Fact that the dogs had to be worn out cause my wifes dog doesn't allow a hog to drift, and never has been docked for drifting, and he let the hog drift in his High point run. It easy to say that the high point competition was disappointing when one shows up for the last day of the event and starts concluding things, but i know that these dogs have worked their tails off all week long to get to that point. As far as the judges, i know they were worn out themselves, so that could have been the reason you didn't think the judges were up to YOUR par. Just be careful with your words when you start voicing your opinion about things that people have worked hard on for weeks, months, years to get to the point to compete at a competition such as earls!

This year was by far one of the best Earl's I've been to (I've been to 11)  Hogs were awesome, dogs worked well and judging was very good. I haven't heard many complaints either. Kevin, u should've been there all week.  Grin
