I was walking fast down a hog trail high weeds on both sides . Had a hog bayed no time to waist . Going down hill i steped on a rattler he rolled out from under my foot and i almost fell on him . While getting my ballance back he struck hitting my baggy pant leg . He didnt get me but close call . He rattled for a ways going off in the trees . Im not scared of snakes but that made me think .

no I haven't and hope I never do...but have had a close call with a few cotton mouths and a rattlesnake...but you are very lucky...that's about as close to getting bit as you can get without getting bit...  Huh? Smiley

Had a kid hunting with me several years ago nearly step on one. Three of us walking to a bay in a stock pond. No lights just walking under a bright moon.  God's hand was on us that night. I looked down, stopped the kid in middle stride. Turned a light on and there was one about 2' long.
Had another time that I was on my hands and knees crawling up a steep creek bank to a bay. Came face to face with one of the biggest I've ever seen. Probably 6' foot with  a head as big as my fist. Didn't take long to slide down to the bottom of the creek either.
Now days I carry tongs and a box with me all summer. If anyone watches the TV show with Jackie Bibby, you have probably seen the episodes with the 95 year old lady? Love to see the smile on that lady's face when I go by and drop a big one in her cage. Have even taken her on some hog hunts.

If that had of been me I would have been making a trip back to the truck to change drawers.

Use to run a couple miles every other day, like to stay in shape, and i dont like running on the road hurts my back. Always liked runnin thru the woods. Sun was settin just before dusk, and it never rattled, that thing must've had rabbit for dinner. didnt knock me down but when my foot hit it i knew exactly what it was.

I screamed like a girl and i high stepped kinda jumpin for 20yds. Kinda regained my composure went back and it was close to 6ft.  Watched it go off in the planted pines. Killed my runnin vibe for a couple days. I run roads now lol

I was deer hunting and it was cold so I was not looking for snakes. When I stepped the ground felt strange and then I saw the snake> I jumped and ran at the same time. Still not sure how I did it. But then the guy behind me said he had a snake bite kit. I told him I did not get bit. He swears he saw me get bit but I was not. It was that close. I guess the snake was moving slow because it was cold.

I saw a man's face that crawled up on a rattler Tusk Hog. It was not a pretty sight and he did not make it. You were real lucky. I am always worried when I crawl and keep a sharp eye out. I never crawl at night without a head light.
